The chemistry department is seeking candidates to hire as Student Laboratory Assistants. The Laboratory
Assistant will assist the Laboratory Manager in preparing and maintaining all equipment reagents and
inventory required for Chemistry Department teaching and research. The Laboratory Assistant also assists
in perpetuating a culture of organization safety and efficiency in the stockroom and laboratory
environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare chemical solutions for instructional laboratory courses according to provided protocols
- and safety guidelines. Includes keeping meticulous notes on preparation.
- Organize and maintain chemical storage areas in compliance with OSHA safety regulations
- Manage chemical inventory logging new chemicals into inventory systems and removing
- depleted materials
- Pull and distribute chemicals from inventory for weekly laboratory experiments
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with stockroom organization
- Clean and maintain teaching laboratories to ensure a safe and professional learning environment
- Wash dry and properly store laboratory glassware
- Put away glassware at the beginning of each week and ensure labs are properly reset
- Follow all departmental and institutional safety procedures

Compensation and Benefits
- Rate of Pay: $16.45/hour
- Minnesota Sick and Safe Time
- Minnesota Paid Family and Medical Leave
- Not eligible for health insurance benefits
Qualifications :
- Students must be currently enrolled at Augsburg and must be work-study eligible.
- Completion of CHM116L and 252L with a passing grade required
- Demonstrated experience including courses working in a laboratory environment
- Biochemistry or Chemistry major preferred
- Hours of work: 5 hours per week in regular blocks on the same days every week. The schedule is
extremely flexible depending on the semester and workload. - Physical Demands: Able to lift at least 20 lbs
- Able to discern varied colors
- Able to execute verbal and written directions
- Able to stand and work for three hours
- Able to climb multiple steps
