TITLE: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
POSITION TYPE: Exempt
AGREEMENT TERMS: Approximately 151 days (Monday Thursday)
SALARY/RATE: Determined by Certification and Experience
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services
GENERAL SUMMARY
Provide services that enable students to have a successful educational experience by providing evaluation consultation and therapy for students having or suspected of having a disability. Use meaningful activities and environmental adaptations to help students develop skills for academics play self-care and social participation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts evaluations to ascertain the need for therapy.
- Prepares a written report of evaluation with recommendations.
- Provides therapy in accord with IEP or school requirements.
- Participates in IEP meetings.
- Selects and recommends with approval of the manager appropriate evaluation and therapy materials for use in the school.
- Helps students engage in necessary and desired activities (occupations) to support their physical and mental well-being.
- Focuses on helping student develop functional skills for academics play social interaction self-care and work-related skills.
- Analyze and adapt school environments and tasks to reduce barriers to participation for students with physical cognitive psychosocial or sensory challenges.
- Consults with general or special education teachers regarding the needs of students with disabilities.
- Plans and provides staff development on selected topics for both general and special education staff.
- Operates computers audio-visual and other specified or instructional equipment and devices when required for the specified student.
- Works with personnel of community and public health service agencies as necessary to ensure effective services and transitions.
- Assures compliance with local state and federal law regulations and/or policies of the district as applicable to the area of service.
- Attends meetings participates in staff development as required by the department.
- Maintains student records and other documentation as required by school and district policies practices and in professional practice guidelines.
- Performs such other tasks as may be required by the Director of Special Services for the effective operation of the schools program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EducationValid professional Occupational Therapist license allowing the holder to practice in South Carolina
Job Requirements: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written. Possess and utilize excellent team-building skills. Accept delegated responsibilities willingly. Able to work under occasional stress. Demonstrate a high level of initiative in job performance. Excellent computer skills to be able to prepare necessary reports and for records maintenance. Strong knowledge and applications of assertive technology. Evidence of successful work relationships with colleagues.
Working Conditions Is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Activities require mobility to stand stoop reach and bend. Perform lifting pushing and/or pulling to provide appropriate therapy for assigned students.
