:59 PMCBC News is looking for a producer to join our digital team at Canadas leading news website and app. As an accomplished journalist youre an excellent writer and editor with a sharp eye for a range of headlines stories and videos that connect with contemporary Canada. You must be a critical independent thinker capable of working efficiently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
Reporting to the executive producer you ensure the accurate and quick delivery and curation of breaking and relevant news to CBCs digital and social platforms. You must be proficient in leveraging mobile-first packaging visual storytelling tools and techniques interpreting analytics and adapting to evolving technologies. This job also requires identifying screening and prioritizing national and international stories of interest for a digital audience.
Youre an impeccable multitasker and self-starter who is comfortable making independent editorial decisions in accordance with the CBC News Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as the overall digital strategy. You have uncompromising attention to detail and high standards.

This is a permanent part-time overnight position scheduled two nights a week on compressed shifts (Fridays 6 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. ET and Saturdays 5:45 p.m. ET to 5:30 a.m. ET).
Program the homepage and news app including story lineups and video
players.
Copy edit digital stories social posts video descriptions.
Monitor breaking and developing national and international news.
Craft and send breaking news alerts.
Update the Morning Brief newsletter with overnight developments.
Screen and prioritize digital stories video livestreams audio and photos from across CBC News and wire agencies.
Publish video content to feature on CBC's site app and social channels.
Co-ordinate livestreams.
Launch and update live story pages during major breaking news events.
Work with reporters editors producers on digital content.
Execute and contribute to digital publishing best practices.
Research write contribute to digital stories as required.
Liaise with assignment newsgathering social teams across the news division.
Minimum five years of recent experience in a digital news environment.
Strong journalistic skills.
Substantial experience writing copy editing fact-checking and packaging news content.
Ability to work and make editorial decisions independently.
Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
Ability to efficiently manage large volumes of fast-moving information.
Understanding of how and when to leverage multimedia assets including video audio
photos and social media embeds.
Stellar communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of content management systems such as 9CMS.
Knowledge of Canadian Press and/or style.
University degree or equivalent.
Ability to work weekends early mornings statutory holidays as required.
