Summary
The Safety Coordinator position establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe accident free and
healthy work environment by performing the following duties personally or through Supervisors and
Managers to ensure safe working conditions by controlling recognized hazards and assure Special Metals
complies with all applicable environmental and safety laws and industry standards.
Essential Functions
Primary responsibility is protecting the employees customers guests and workplace
environment at Special Metals by working with EHS Supervisor and General Manager to
develop implement and train the Sites Safety Plan.
Inspects facility to detect existing or potential safety and health hazards and recommends
corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
Communicates safety culture policies and programs with all personnel to ensure consistency
throughout company operations.
Follows up on safety related corrective actions and controls to ensure their implementation in a
timely manner.
Keeps managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with hazardous
substances. This may include employee training auditing chemical labeling practices and
managing the SDS database.
Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of
material and evidence for organization use in hearings law suits and insurance investigations.
Develops supervises and coordinates safety training programs media and safe operating
procedures which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.
Update and manage the department safety records including Gensuite and audits maintained in
Sharepoint.
Conducts job safety analysis and Process Hazard Assessments on assigned tasks and jobs.
Performs Machine Guarding Assessments on various machinery in the plant.
Conducts 10 Count Safety Audits of employees and engages with employees in the process.
Coordinate 6S improvements and site 6S standards established by Corporate Guidelines.
Education and Experience 2 degree in occupational health safety health physics industrial hygiene or a related field or 5 years experience in lieu of degree. Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry Standards 1-3 years of experience working within an industrial environment; metal processing metallurgy or welding industries preferred. Special Skills Excellent communication and group presentation skills with the capacity to be proactive and influence others. Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and ensure that plans guidance and advice is accurate timely and effective. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work and be flexible and available for on call hours before and/or after normal business hours in addition to off-shift hours as required. Proficient in Microsoft Office computer software applications including power point. OSHA 10 Hour General Industry card & current FA/CPR/AED first responder training a plus.
