QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must possess a Bachelors or Masters degree in education or a related field. They must be eligible for or possess a Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with the appropriate endorsement to teach Business & Information Technology courses. The candidate should be proficient in the required concepts and knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Accounting Business Management Computer Information Systems Cybersecurity Design Multimedia and Web Technologies Economics & Personal Finance Entrepreneurship or Information Technology. Additionally the candidate should have knowledge and skill in using technology in an educational environment particularly computer application software such as word processing database spreadsheet and presentation with programming robotics and engineering experience are preferred.
DESCRIPTION
The Business and Information Technology Teacher instills a love of programming robotics and advanced manufacturing in our high school students. Theywill be responsible for developing curriculum teaching technology classes and supporting students as they explore and create with technology. The high school technology teacher will also support the middle school program through curriculum alignment and project collaboration.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
- Utilize the technology education curriculum designated by the Virginia Department of Education and Hopewell City Public Schools to develop lesson plans that align with the districts instructional philosophy
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and utilize appropriate equipment for subject area; translate lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments challenge students and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Design learning activities to demonstrate the application of technical skills; guide students in the selection of projects or experiments and engage all students in real-world work to optimize learning.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress and modify instructional methods to fit individual students needs including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Instruct students in the proper and safe use care and storage of tools machines and equipment.
- Maintain appropriate student records to include attendance reports grades competency records completer data and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
- Stay up-to-date on developments in educational technology and incorporate new tools into lessons.
- Sponsor after-school technology and robotics clubs or teams.
- Promote work-based learning concurrent enrollment and post-secondary opportunities.
- Collaborate with other teachers to integrate technology into their subjects and classes.
- Communicate student progress with parents school counselors and administrators.
- Participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities.
- Model equitable practices in all activities.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the supervision of the School Principal and other administrators as appropriate including the division Supervisor of CTE.
WORK CONDITIONS
Duties performed are typically in the school setting specifically in a computer lab with access to Promethean board technology. Performs professional work providing support and consultative services for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing sitting walking and light lifting. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups. Employees may be required to perform emergency and non-emergency health-related services for students as needed.
CONTRACT LENGTH
200 Days
