SUPERVISES:Oversees Fleet Coach Buses Parts Room and other District Fleets.

EDUCATION: Associate Degree or Vocational Training

EXPERIENCE: Five years Shop Supervisor experience and ten years of automotive and/or school bus maintenance operations experience.

Position Function/Purpose

Manage a safe efficient and effective vehicle maintenance program for the Districts school buses and assigned white fleet vehicles. Coordinate maintenance operations at MISDs Transportation and fueling facilities.

Assist the Shop Supervisor in providing leadership and supervision to shop employees. Develop short and long term vehicles needs for the District and develop strategic plans to meet the fleet requirements and identifying significant improvement opportunities which will enhance the MISD fleet. Develop budget goals and review cost reports to determine the effectiveness of the Districts fleet maintenance operation. Make recommendations to the Director for all maintenance related bids and purchases. Meet and provide support to Department Managers to help ensure that their fleet needs are met.

Major Responsibilities

1. Maintains accurate records of all labor/materials/supplies utilized in the shops.

2. Determine long term goals and strategies to manage effective maintenance repair cost tracking

specifications purchasing and retirement of fleet.

3. Oversees maintenance of all vehicles shop equipment and fuel islands in Transportation.

4. Operational knowledge of the Texas Department of Public Safety Inspection requirements.

5. Oversee the Departments Preventive Maintenance Program.

6. Responsible for performing technician duties on Van Hool and other District fleet.

7. Responsible for checking buses for specific standards of performance and operation.

8. Development and management of a bus warranty shop program.

9. Oversee all school bus warranty claims warranty work and bus recalls notices.

10. Work closely with Mechanic Shop Supervisor

11. Ability to manage total fleet budget.

12. Be familiar with the usage of Infofinder LE.

13. Know how to use the Zonar Location and Path reports.

14. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

15. Must have CDL with P and S endorsements.

16. Subject to drive school bus.

17. Inventory of all parts check in and out of parts and proper storage. Maintain and clean parts room.

Qualification Requirements

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION/EDUCATION:

1. Bachelor or Associate Degree

2. Valid Class B Texas Commercial Drivers License with P & S Endorsement

3. Must obtain ASE Certification within 1 year of employment

4. Successful completion of Texas Department of Public Safety Certification Course

5. Must pass an annual DOT physical examination by an appropriate health professional designated by the

employer.

6. Valid Texas Drivers License and acceptable driving record; must adhere to Midland ISDs vehicle safety and use program

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE SKILLS:

7. Computer Literate

8. Texas School Bus Driver Safety Certification

9. Extensive training in vehicle repair

10. Proficient in Fleet Management software. (RTA)

11. Proficient in Microsoft including Excel Word and Powerpoint

12. Excellent organizational written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

13. Ability to work within deadlines and handle interruptions

14. Ability to communicate effectively with managers supervisors and axillary departments

15. Knowledge of parts room operations

16. Knowledge of diesel and gas engine maintenance diagnostics and repair

17. Ability to meet the physical demands of mechanical repairs

18. Ability to operate all shop equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair

BACKGROUND:

19. Acceptable driving record

20. Must pass random drug and alcohol test

21. Clearance on criminal background check

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

22. Minimum of five (5) years Shop Supervisor experience.

23. Minimum ten (10 years of automotive and/or school bus maintenance operations experience

SAFETY

24. Ensure that tools equipment and machinery are operated and stored according to prescribed safety procedures.

25. Ensure that safety procedures and techniques used to perform job duties including lifting climbing etc. are practiced by shop employees.

26. Correct unsafe conditions in work areas and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

27. Ensure that hazardous materials are properly stored and used and have proper signage.

INSPECTION

28. Inspect and track performance of repair work performed by mechanics

29. Inspect and approve work done by outside contractors.

30. Review and approve completed work orders.

31. Ensure that state safety inspections for all district vehicles are performed properly and timely.

INVENTORY AND EQUIPMENT

32. Keep shop equipment and tools in safe operating condition.

33. Order equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records.

34. Recommend replacement of existing equipment.

35. Conduct annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies.

36. Ensure the upkeep and appearance of shop and parking lot area.

OTHER

37. Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Establish on-call mechanic support.

38. Maintain records required by TECQ concerning maintenance and inspection of fuel dispensing systems.

39. Assist the Shop Supervisor with recruiting screening training and evaluation of shop employees.

40. Train mechanics on mechanical diagnostic procedures.

41. Evaluate performance of mechanics and recommend training programs as needed.

42. Establish training programs for all mechanics and shop personnel.

43. Implement work standards for all jobs and evaluate the performance of mechanics.

44. Other duties as assigned by the Director.

MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT FACTORS:

The ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate walking standing climbing heavy lifting

carrying stooping bending kneeling and reaching. Work outside and inside around moving objects vehicles and

machinery with moving parts. Exposed to dampness and humidity toxic chemicals exhaust fumes gasoline and

diesel fuel.
