Job Summary:
Windham School District is seeking a High School Mental Health Counselor to provide comprehensive school-based mental health services to support students social emotional and behavioral well-being and promote their ability to engage successfully in the educational environment. The counselor collaborates with students families school staff and community providers to assess needs deliver counseling services respond to crises and develop and implement interventions that support student success. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a school setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students social emotional and behavioral needs.
- Conduct confidential face-to-face counseling sessions to help students develop self-awareness coping strategies decision-making skills and conflict resolution skills.
- Conduct student safety and risk assessments independently and make appropriate clinical recommendations.
- Provide crisis counseling and intervention for students experiencing acute emotional or behavioral challenges.
- Collaborate with parents/guardians families and outside providers to support students overall well-being.
- Develop and implement intervention plans in collaboration with school staff and community partners to increase student engagement and success in school.
- Participate in the special education process including:
- Developing counseling goals for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Monitoring and documenting student progress
- Maintaining counseling documentation in compliance with district state and Medicaid billing requirements
- Attending and contributing to IEP meetings
- Ensure compliance with New Hampshire Special Education laws regulations and district procedures.
- Complete Medicaid billing documentation accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with district and state requirements.
- Refer students and families to appropriate community-based mental health services as needed.
- Support the implementation of the schools Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) including participation in problem-solving teams and use of trauma-informed practices.
- Collaborate with school staff to develop and maintain appropriate in-school supports for students.
- Provide classroom guidance lessons as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate timely and confidential documentation in accordance with legal ethical and district standards.
- Adhere to professional ethical standards and confidentiality requirements.
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Social Work Mental Health Counseling or a closely related field.
- Current New Hampshire licensure required:
- Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC/LMHC)
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
- or equivalent clinical mental health licensethroughthe State of New Hampshire.
- Experience working with adolescents in a school setting is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with the New Hampshire Special Education process and multidisciplinary team collaboration.
- Experience with Medicaid billing in a school setting preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in organization communication and collaboration.
- Experience with trauma-informed practices and crisis response preferred.
