EDUCATION:

  • HS Diploma and Associate degree preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in school transportation

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE

Coordinate and schedule all Special Education transportation needs; interact with special

education students school personnel parents and patrons. Assist in the formulation and

implementation of bus routes scheduling of drivers aides and equipment assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Coordinate schedule and maintain all special education bus routes

2. Assumes supervision of SPED employees.

3. Ensures MISD policies and procedures are followed.

4. Supervise instruct and counsel special education bus drivers and bus aides concerning any problems or concerns

with students parents teachers co-worker patrons.

5. Recommend the hiring of bus aides and assignments of special needs bus drivers.

6. Assist the safety department with instruction of all special education driver bus aides

and regular education substitute drivers about loading securing and unloading

wheelchair students on the buses.

7. Maintain pertinent documentation on special education students that enables for the

efficient and effective routing of all SPED students.

8. Coordinates route changes with parents school administrators drivers and aides.

9. Prepare reports required by the state district or department.

10. Supervise and monitor the special education drivers in maintaining a route folder with

accurate descriptions of their AM and PM routes (i.e. order of pickup and drop-off

locations and times including the arrival and departing time at each school served).

11. Be responsible for coordinating assigning and dispatching of the special education

wheelchair students for extracurricular trips.

12. Coordinate and schedule all summer school routes for special education students.

13. Remain informed of accident response procedures (e.g. dispatch police ambulance drug testing agency notify

appropriate personnel and school(s); cover any remaining portion

of the route; assist in notifying parents of all students on the bus; assist at the accident

scene if necessary.)

14. Assist in regular and special education dispatching duties for AM/ PM routes and in the

absence of the lead dispatcher.

15. Perform as a relief special education/regular route bus driver when necessary.

25. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders students

teachers administrators and co-workers.

26. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the

school/department are met.

27. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email written and

verbal).

28. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Certification/Education:

1. The ability to read and write English.

2. High School Diploma or GED preferred.

3. Valid Texas commercial drivers license with passenger and school bus endorsements.

4. DPS School Bus Driver Certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

1. Some experience or knowledge of dispatching and use of routing software

2. Good telephone and 2-way radio communication skills

3. Proficient computer and typing skills

4. A bility to effectively present information and respond to questions both verbally and written from

managers school administrators parents drivers/aides

5. Ability and knowledge of routing and scheduling buses for special educations students

6. Knowledge of state and federal guidelines for special education

7. Ability to complete required bus driver safety training

8. Knowledge of student discipline procedure

9. Ability to manage student behavior

10. Possess a good driving record

11. Ability to operate various types of school buses

12. Demonstrated ability to enter and exit emergency exits of bus
