The Personal Finance Teacher is responsible for delivering Missouri-required personal finance instruction to high school students. This role ensures students develop essential financial literacy skillsincluding budgeting saving investing credit management and financial decision-makingto meet graduation requirements established by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
Teach Personal Finance courses aligned with Missouri Learning Standards and graduation requirements.
Develop lesson plans covering topics such as budgeting banking credit taxes insurance investing and consumer protection.
Incorporate real-world financial scenarios and project-based learning.
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring
Assess student understanding through quizzes projects presentations and exams.
Track and report student progress in accordance with district policies.
Prepare students to demonstrate proficiency required for graduation.
Classroom Management
Maintain a structured respectful and inclusive learning environment.
Establish clear expectations for student behavior and engagement.
Compliance & Graduation Requirements
Ensure all students meet the state-mandated Personal Finance credit requirement for graduation.
Maintain accurate records of student completion and proficiency.
Stay current on state policies related to financial literacy requirements.
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with colleagues counselors and administrators to support student success.
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
Participate in professional learning communities and school meetings.
Professional Development
Engage in ongoing training related to financial literacy teaching strategies and state requirements.
Stay informed about changes in financial systems tools and regulations.
Required:
Bachelors degree in Education Business Finance Economics or related field.
Valid Missouri teaching certificate (appropriate content area).
Knowledge of personal finance concepts and financial literacy instruction.
Preferred:
Certification or endorsement in Business Education or Family and Consumer Sciences.
Experience teaching high school students.
Familiarity with Missouris financial literacy graduation requirement.
Strong understanding of personal finance topics.
Effective classroom management and instructional skills.
Ability to explain complex financial concepts in simple terms.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Technology integration (e.g. budgeting tools simulations online platforms).
High school classroom setting.
Standard school calendar and hours with occasional after-school responsibilities.
