The Ocean Reef Community Association (ORCA) located in North Key Largo FL has a Full-Time position available for a Community Patrol Sergeant (Armed). The Community Patrol Officer Sergeant (Armed) oversees the daily operations of security services to all locations in the Ocean Reef Community. These services include vehicle patrol foot patrol traffic control crime control investigations Emergency Medical Services backup and general public assistance services.
The Community Patrol Sergeant (Armed) oversees under the purview of the Public Safety Department the daily operations of security services to all locations in the Ocean Reef Community. These services include vehicle patrol foot patrol traffic control crime control investigations Fire and EMS backup and general public assistance services.
SPECIFIC DUTIES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Supervises Armed and Unarmed Community Patrol Officers and part-time Community Patrol Officers.
- Responsible for making employment recommendations including hiring promoting and disciplinary actions.
- Completes Annual Evaluations for employees under direct supervision.
- Assists with the planning of special events and the scheduling of employees for those events.
- Creates monthly schedule for Community Patrol Officers ensuring proper coverage and special on shift assignments are manned.
- Ensures compliance with Ocean Reef Community Association (ORCA) rules policies and procedures standard operating procedure Public Safety Department Firearms and Ammunitions Policy and direction of Public Safety management.
- Ensures compliance with Federal State and local law ordinances.
- Patrols to prevent thefts vandalism breach of peace violation of controlled substance laws and community ordinances.
- Enforces traffic laws and regulations including speed monitoring parking regulations safety compliance and golf cart use.
- Required to carry a Public Safety Department issued firearm ammunition and body camera at all times while on duty. Does not remove the firearm from the holster except for authorized use or inspection. Does not carry personal firearms or ammunition while on duty for any reason.
- May be called to assist the Sheriffs Office as a back-up officer always yielding to the Sheriffs Office and allowing the Sheriffs Office to take the lead in every action.
- Required to perform special detail armed assignments.
- Required to respond to incidents involving armed individuals and acts according to Policy.
- Utilizes only the amount of force necessary to overcome the resistive force or gain compliance of any subject who the officer is attempting to detain or prevent from further commission of a crime.
- May make entry to check structures when signs of a break-in are visible or when responding to an alarm where a door or window is found open.
- Responds to emergency calls and renders aid at their level of training.
- Reviews and approves reports submitted by Community Patrol Officers.
- Conducts preliminary investigations of criminal and non-criminal offenses.
- Submits accurate and complete reports as required by standard operation procedures and Public Safety Department directives.
- Provides security escorts as required.
- Maintains logs and records of all events on assigned shift.
- Reviews Community Patrol Officers timecards for accuracy.
- Promotes positive interaction within the community in order to enhance Public Safety acceptance understanding and approval of all those served.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Competency proficiency and knowledge of when the use of deadly force is lawful for both self-protection and the protection of another person.
- Strong organizational and communication skills (written and oral).
- Ability to react quickly and courteously with the public.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Skilled in use of assigned equipment.
- Requires frequent use of radios sirens emergency lights and patrol cars.
- Requires the use of various reports field contact cards tickets directories maps and lists of residents and members.
- Ability to use and wear protective equipment.
- Frequently required to stand talk or listen.
- Required to walk run use hands and fingers handle or feel objects ID cards reports tickets and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities are required including close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Required to recognize specific colors designs and logos.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds.
- Must be able to work while wearing a ballistic vest (body armor) stand walk and/or run wearing a ballistic vest and wearing all the required equipment on a duty belt.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: An associate degree from an accredited College or University in criminal justice law enforcement certification or military experience preferred.
Experience: At least three (3) years of experience as a Class D Security Officer. Prior Certified Law Enforcement or military experience is preferred which may also be in lieu of three (3) years of experience as a Class D Security Officer.
Licenses Certificates or Other:
- Valid Florida Driver License is required.
- Florida Class D & G Security License or ability to obtain Licenses within six (6) months of hire.
- Must pass Firearms qualification course as mandated by the State.
- Must pass and be certified in Conducted Electrical Weapon (more commonly known as a TASER).
- Must successfully pass a psychological examination by a licensed professional approved by ORCA.
- Must complete a minimum of four (4) hours of training annually (or the minimum required by Florida Statutes) by an ORCA assigned Class K Instructor. May be assigned to completer additional training as required by ORCA.
- Must qualify a minimum of three (3) times in a calendar year by meeting or exceeding the minimum firearms proficiency standards on an approved range with a certified Range Master.
- Will be required to attend at least three (3) ORCA sponsored sessions with a mental health professional if involved in a shooting incident. Additional visits may be required if recommended by the mental health professional.
Any combination of the above education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the Community Patrol Sergeant (Armed) position will be considered.
