Summary:
The Gifted Resource Specialist is responsible for providing leadership for the gifted program in CCS. The Gifted Resource Specialist is a resource to teachers principals division-level colleagues parents and the community. The Specialist provides support directs change efforts and coordinates gifted programming across the school division including overseeing the implementation of the Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted. The specialist also serves as the part-time gifted resource teacher for Charlottesville High School.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee the gifted program in CCS to ensure compliance with state regulations and school board policies
- Operationalize the CCS Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted and support gifted resource teachers in providing rigorous differentiated learning experiences
- Act as a liaison between administrators parents teachers and community members to discuss program initiatives including the gifted advisory committee
- Communicate effectively and disseminate information about gifted education services
- Coordinate the referral assessment and gifted identification process and maintain all associated student records
- Assist in coordinating division gifted curriculum resources and materials
- Design and deliver professional learning around differentiation
- Provide leadership and mentorship to gifted resource teachers
- Monitor the gifted education budget resources and materials
- Participate in division-wide instructional team meetings
- Coordinate application and local selection process for Summer Residential Governors Schools
- Support the coordination of independent study course offerings
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
- Assess the accomplishments of students regularly and provide progress reports as required
- Implement Division initiatives
- Collaborate effectively with department and grade-level teachers
- Design and implement appropriate differentiated learning experiences that integrate with the general education program
- Provide direct consultation with general education teachers on specialized instructional techniques that support differentiated learning
- Remain current on research and best practices in gifted education
- Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities
- Serve on committees as assigned
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Academic Officer

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors Degree with endorsement in Gifted Education and at least three years of teaching experience is required. A Masters Degree is preferred.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:
The usual and customary methods of performing the teaching position require the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 24% sitting 33% walking and 43% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
Evaluation
The Gifted Resource Specialist is evaluated by the Chief Academic Officer.
