Whats the role
The primary objective of the position is to work with colleagues farmers and farm advisors to scope new carbon project opportunities and support existing projects serviced by Select Carbon. The role will involve planning implementing and monitoring of crop and pasture agronomy and of innovative grazing management techniques with landholders who are interested in registering or have registered soil carbon projects.
This role combines subject matter expertise with project management skills to ensure soil carbon projects are well designed integrated into whole-farm systems support productivity and sustainability goals of farms. The intent of projects are to increase carbon soil carbon sequestration though Eligible Management Activities (EMAs) and meet the requirements to be issued carbon credits importantly whilst also supporting farm productivity and profitability and helping farmers be well positioned for the future.
What youll be doing
Planning implementing monitoring and reporting on carbon farming projects:
Establish and/or maintain effective working relationships with farmers and their farm advisors
Work with colleagues and farmers and their advisors to optimise performance of soil carbon projects and to ensure all parties effectively share knowledge and updates on projects
Provide technical expertise in farming systems particularly agronomy to identify suitable EMAs discuss with farmers and their advisors how the implementation of EMAs can be integrated into whole-farm planning and improve productivity and other goals along with increasing soil carbon
Proactively support and manage the implementation and monitoring of EMAs through regular interactions with farmers and their advisors and Select Carbon colleagues and appropriately engage external stakeholders including government agencies eligible interest holders auditors and the Clean Energy Regulator
Identify in partnership with farmers and their advisor how cropping systems crop-pasture rotation systems or permanent pastures can be better managed using eligible management activities or how feedbase and grazing management can be best managed to achieve increases in pasture performance and livestock production to achieve multiple benefits to the whole-farm system including soil carbon responses
Collect and collate evidence of management activities in crop pasture and livestock management in a practical and efficient way suitable for use in reports to third-party auditors and the Clean Energy Regulator (CER)
Other Major Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance project delivery reduce risks improve efficiencies and strengthen landholder engagement and participation.
Engage regularly with regional landholders through travel communication and fieldworkconduct field monitoring ensure SOP compliance and clearly explain carbon farming opportunities risks rewards and integration into wholefarm operations.
Maintain accurate professional project documentation including audit files databases records of engagement and updates in management software to support staff landholders auditors and future evidence requirements.
Ensure full project compliance with methodologies CER guidance codes of conduct HSSE standards and environmental expectations while staying current with all regulatory correspondence.
CrossFunctional & External Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain regular communication with farmers and their advisors the Clean Energy Regulator state government agencies community groups regional NRM/LLS bodies and internal teams (including Spatial & Data Science Vegetation Business Commercial and Finance). Engage effectively during field work forums and oneonone meetings while providing specialist expertise working safely and operating within budgets and policies.
Project Delivery Risk Management & Complexity Handling: Reduce project risks maximise performance and manage complex multistakeholder environments by staying organised meeting deadlines adapting to changing requirements and maintaining high standards of planning communication and professional execution.
What you bring
Tertiary qualifications in Agricultural Science Agronomy Animal Science Rural Science Agribusiness or equivalent experience; proficiency in reporting farm management software and (desirable) GIS tools such as ArcGIS/QGIS and GHG accounting for mixed farming systems.
Agronomy Livestock & Soil Science Expertise: Experience in crop and pasture agronomy or livestock/feedbase management strong understanding of Australian production systems soil carbon dynamics sequestration processes and the ability to interpret soil physical chemical and biological data.
Carbon Farming & ACCU Knowledge: (Desirable) Knowledge of carbon farming project development and ACCU Scheme methodologies with the ability to apply innovative scientific and technical insights to drive onfarm practice change.
Communication Networking & Collaboration Skills: Strong communication skills for internal/external interactions capacity to build networks across agribusiness and farming sectors and ability to work independently as well as within collaborative team environments.
Operational Requirements: A drivers license (manual and 4WD experience preferred) with employerprovided first aid training; demonstrated resilience adaptability and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professional standards.
