Job Summary

Boston Day and Evening Academy (BDEA) is seeking an extraordinary CFC - Post-Graduate Planning to work in our school. BDEA is an innovative public high school that engages young adults to build a vision for their futures through supportive relationships and meaningful competency-based learning. BDEA students are 16 to 23 years old having attended traditional schools where they may have felt lost unsafe or disengaged. Upon entering BDEA students remain eager to succeed and flourish because they are listened to and respected for who they are and for the gifts they possess. Working with experienced faculty in an environment that blends strong academics and support students are given the opportunity to earn a Boston Public Schools diploma and to reach their fullest potential through a competency-based curriculum that inspires critical and creative thinking independent learning and active citizenship. As a competency-based school BDEA does not have grade levels. Our program beginning at 8:30 am for breakfast and running academic classes until 3:10 pm serves students with different academic needs up to age 23 including those who are being promoted from middle school without being academically prepared for high school; those who have dropped out of high school and have decided to return to earn a diploma and those who are unable to attend regular school hours due to health issues full time work and/or full time parenting obligations. The school employs 60 full and part-time staff to work with 350 students and is governed by an active Board of Trustees. All employees of the school are expected to uphold the mission of the school to build a consistent unified anti-racist inclusive community that stimulates greater student agency engagement and academic achievement.

The CFC- PGP will support a robust post-graduate planning team that will excite and engage the diverse and talented BDEA student body and prepare them through non academic learning experiences for post graduate readiness. We are looking for a staff member who is committed to working with our students who understands the lives of urban youth and who has a track record of working successfully in a collaborative professional learning community.

Reports to: Principal/Head of School

Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate up to 5 sections of college and career workshops aligned to BDEA benchmarks and competencies MCAP and Xello.
    • Engage in professional learning in order to utilize/implement the MYCAP and Xello platforms.
  • Incorporate executive functioning skills and how to succeed at BDEA into curriculum and workshops.
  • In partnership with PGP Department support academic and post-graduate planning progress
  • Participate in PGP Department events on an as needed basis (i.e. dept meetings tabling partnership meetings data collection accountability meetings capstone presentation family meetings)
  • Participate in the development and success of Symposium Family Meetings Celebration of Success and other community and all-school events.
  • Participate in all professional development and whole school professional learning and activities.
  • Performs related duties of similar nature as requested by supervisor and/or Head of School to assure smooth school function

Qualifications -Required:

  1. Education:High School Diploma or GED
  2. Forty-eight (48) Credit Hours of College Coursework or an Associates Degree or a passing score on one of the two following Formalized Standardized Assessments: ParaPro Assessment ( ) or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants ( ).
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills
  4. Strong communication skills
  5. Demonstrated success in establishing community partnerships and networks
  6. Experience working with young people
  7. Demonstrated experience working with community-based organizations particularly those that work with migrants and immigrant families
  8. Sensitivity to student cultural and special needs
  9. Ability to work as a member of a team.
  10. Acute attention to detail and project completion
  11. Strong and tested ability to participate effectively on teams; collaborative management style
  12. Passion for coordinating multiple moving parts (logistics schedule people etc.)
  13. Ability to work in a fast-paced challenging environment
  14. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Qualifications - Preferred:

  1. Associates degree.
  2. Computer literacy.
  3. Proven experience in fundraising grant writing and report writing of projects.
  4. Proven managerial expertise in an urban setting.
  5. Experience working in urban schools.
  6. BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom school and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS official languages: Spanish Creole (Cape Verdean) Creole (Haitian) Chinese Vietnamese Portuguese & Somali.

Terms:BTU Paraprofessional Unit Contractual Hourly Rate

As a Horace Mann Charter School teachers and staff are paid a competitive salary in accordance with the Boston Public Schools. As a condition for employment BDEA staff are required to sign an Election To Work Agreement (ETWA) annually which details the terms and conditions for the work year at the school. While the school generally follows the BPS calendar it requires additional planning time before after or during the year as agreed upon in the ETWA. CFC hours are from 8:00 - 4:00 pm or 8:30 4:30 pm with 30 min lunch undisturbed. However hours may vary according to student needs. Program department and committee meetings and professional development take place on Wednesday generally between 1:30pm and 3:30pm. Per BDEA ETWA start 3 days before BPS staff start (compensated at hourly rate)

The start and end times of BPS schools vary as do the lengths of the school day. Some BPS schools have a longer school day through the Schedule A Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
