The Faculty Development Council (FDC) and the Office of the Provost are pleased to accept nominations for the Wang-Fradkin Professorships.
HISTORY
The Wang-Fradkin Professorships are named in honor of Hua-Cheng Wang a distinguished political scientist and diplomat and Dr. Cheng-Mei Wang Fradkin who was professor of Biology and chair of the division of Natural Sciences until her death in founded by Dr. Fradkin as a fellowship in 1982 in honor of her father the University changed the award to a professorship and added the name of Dr. Fradkin to honor them both in 1996.
OBJECTIVES
The professorships are designed to retain outstanding faculty to Chapman University by recognizing exceptional merit in scholarly-creative activity.
AWARDS
The University President may award one junior professorship and one senior professorship each year. The Wang-Fradkin Assistant Professorship carries an award of $8000 (over two years) to support the recipients scholarly-creative activity. The Wang-Fradkin Senior Professorship carries an award of $10000 (over two years) to support the recipients scholarly-creative activity.
ELIGIBILITY
All tenure-track faculty who at the time of application: (1) have not been awarded tenure and (2) have completed two years of full-time service at Chapman University (i.e. are in their third year of service) are eligible for the Wang-Fradkin Assistant Professorship. Nominees for the junior professorship must exhibit high potential for exceptional scholarly-creative achievement and must have a record of peer-reviewed scholarly-creative activity for the last three years prior to nomination.
All faculty who at the time of application: (1) have been awarded tenure and (2) have completed at least three years of full-time service at Chapman University (i.e. are in their fourth year of service) are eligible for the Wang-Fradkin Senior Professorship. Nominees for the senior professorship must have exemplary records of scholarly-creative achievement and must have received significant professional recognition in the last two years prior to nomination.
In keeping with the Faculty Constitution applicants are deemed faculty if they have a full-time faculty contract (i.e. non-administrative) and are primarily responsible for teaching and scholarly-creative activity (i.e. more than 50% of load). In the determination of eligibility the candidates dean shall have final say.
