- Tutor one-to-one The certified teacher selects the student materials and the types of instruction to be conducted by teacher assistant.
- Reinforce small group work The teacher assistant works with small groups to review and reinforce skills and concepts previously taught by the certified teacher. The certified teacher selects the members of the small group the materials and the instructional approach to be used.
- Assist the teacher with instructionThe teacher assistants instructional role is defined by the certified teacher in advance of the lesson. The assistance may include distributing materials collecting materials operating media assisting individual students or small groups or monitoring the activities of individual students or small groups
- Participates in inservice programsThe teacher assistant participates in inservice programs as instructed by the principal or district personnel.
Management Tasks:
- Decorate bulletin boardsThe teacher assistant assists in preparing class displays and bulletin boards.
- Assist with breakfast/lunch programsThe teacher assistant assists with lunch/breakfast or snack routines.
- Assist students with outer clothingThe teacher assistant helps students with jackets coats zippers etc.
- Maintain materials The teacher assistant assists the teacher in keeping classroom materials neat in good order in appropriate areas and ready for student use.
- Prepare materials The certified teacher instructs the teacher assistant regarding the materials to prepare how to prepare them and when the task is to be done.
- Mark students papers The teacher assistant may correct students; work and perform clerical duties using guidelines established by the certified teacher.
- Assist in crisis interventionThe teacher assistant helps the certified teacher maintain order and control inappropriate behavior.
- Assist in student supervision dutiesThe teacher assistant assists in duties relating to the supervision of playground study hall hall duty cafeteria and bus loading activities as directed by teacher/principal.
