Reporting to our Area Controller you will join a core team responsible for providing accounting support to Sites and Management and for reporting financial results to business partners throughout our Canada Area. You will work closely with Operations Site Managers the Finance Team and other stakeholders when performing daily tasks supporting the month-end close process and taking on cross-functional projects.

The intership will take place from May 4th to August 28th 2026.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support routine accounting activities such as reconciliations accruals and journal entry preparation.

  • Participate in routine control-driven processes (e.g. inventory counts inbound/outbound reconciliations tolling reconciliations and more).

  • Assist with the preparation of recurring filings and internal reports under the guidance of senior team members.

  • Participate in month-end close activities including shadowing experienced colleagues attending financial statement review calls with operations and posting routine journal entries.

  • Partner with colleagues from finance operations and other WM functions as needed when working on cross-functional projects.

  • Review facility level financial statements to identify potential accounting errors or corroborate month-over-month variances.

  • Reconcile relevantbalancesheetGLaccountsmonthly including researching and solving issues.

  • Prepareadhocreportinganalysisandinvestigationasneeded across multiple platforms.

  • Above list is not exhaustive duties and responsibilities may change and occasional travel to other WM facilities may be required.

III. Qualifications

A. Required Qualifications

  • Interns must have a high school diploma or GED (accredited) and be pursuing or have recently completed a bachelors degree (accredited) in a field of study relevant to the internship.

B. Preferred Qualifications

  • Problem-solving. You love taking on challenges and finding creative solutions. If you dont know the answer youll use your resources to dig until you find it.

  • Communicating clearly both written and verbally. You have strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; high organization and you enjoy working with people from many different fields.

  • Motivating yourself; youre a self-starter and take pride in achieving goals. You are driven committed to learning & growth and want to make meaningful impacts.

  • Excel (Microsoft Office). We use many other computer systems too so youll need to be an enthusiastic learner and open to changing tools and processes.

  • Manipulating various data and files to produce reports and analyzing results.

  • This position is located in an office environment at 254 Westbrook Rd Carp ON.

  • In office Monday to Thursday with the ability to work remotely on Friday.

  • Daily requirement of 8 working hours.

The expected base pay rate for this position is $25/h. This rate represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidates relevant experience education training certifications qualifications and work location.

This role is designated as Hybrid which will follow the WM Office Policy requiring in office work and an option to work remotely one day per week
