Job Summary

The Virginia Tourism Corporation is seeking a Director of Destination Development to lead our Destination Development Team within the Partnership Marketing Division. This leadership role is responsible for guiding statewide initiatives that strengthen Virginias tourism economy through strategic planning product development and community engagement.

The Director will oversee implementation of Partnership Marketing initiatives and future programs working closely with communities and tourism partners to support destination growth across the Commonwealth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Destination Development Team
  • Oversee tourism strategic planning technical assistance and product development initiatives
  • Provide cooperative marketing guidance to communities and tourism-related businesses
  • Coordinate educational outreach on the economic impact of tourism to local state and federal officials
  • Support destination growth through community visioning goal setting and project implementation
  • Represent VTC through presentations meetings and events across the state

The successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of:

  • Tourism development and marketing
  • Economic and community development planning
  • Strategic planning and project implementation
  • Entrepreneurship and professional leadership
  • Government operations and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to engage with partners across Virginia

Candidates must demonstrate significant leadership experience including the ability to effectively lead and manage a large team along with the ability to manage multiple projects communicate effectively both verbally and in writing work independently in a remote environment and collaborate across teams while maintaining confidentiality on sensitive matters.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software
  • Ability to telecommute effectively from a home office
  • Willingness to travel frequently across Virginia and attend evening meetings
  • Regular travel throughout the Commonwealth including frequent trips to the Richmond office will be required

Experience:

  • 10 years of experience in business public administration marketing hospitality or related field
