A growing organization is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Senior Accountant to join its team in Gaithersburg MD. This position plays a key role in managing day-to-day accounting operations and supporting month-end close processes financial reporting and cross-functional initiatives.

Responsibilities
Perform month-end close activities including preparing journal entries accruals deferrals and variance analysis
Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial data through proper reconciliation of all accounts and subledgers
Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports including detailed analysis of variances to budget
Complete cash reconciliations and ensure proper recording of all cash activity
Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the trial balance and investigate discrepancies
Track and record fixed assets including depreciation schedules
Account for inventory adjustments based on periodic physical counts
Support oversight of Accounts Receivable and Payroll functions to ensure accuracy and completeness
Prepare journal entries related to employee benefit plans
Assist with audit preparation by compiling supporting documentation
Review and support Sales & Use Tax compliance
Analyze job cost reports and generate customized financial reports as needed
Contribute to the development and improvement of accounting policies and procedures
Participate in special projects and ad hoc analysis to support business operations
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
5 years of accounting experience preferably within the construction industry
Strong understanding of GAAP financial reporting and internal controls
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel with the ability to support analysis and reconciliations
Experience with accounting systems such as Spectrum/Viewpoint is highly preferred
Strong attention to detail organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative team-oriented mindset
Self-starter with a positive attitude and desire for continued professional growth
Must be authorized to work in the United States
