The Precision Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the design of production tools and /or machines and for developing solutions to support the bearing manufacturing process. A major responsibility is to improve existing manufacturing processes by increasing machine capability while at the same time maintaining quality standards. This individual will also have responsibility for floor layouts as well as costing and obtaining quotes. The incumbent is responsible for supporting new programs by developing new processes designing tooling and machinery and developing production controls. Additionally the Precision Manufacturing Engineer sets up new equipment ensures satisfactory operation of the new equipment and teaches others to use it properly.
Principle Responsibilities
- Develops and improves processes methods tooling and production controls.
- Stays informed concerning new manufacturing technology and equipment and investigates their potential applications. Recommends incorporation of new technology for company applications where feasible and practical.
- Sets up new equipment ensures its satisfactory operation and instructs others to use the new equipment properly.
- Designs tools and/or machines of varying types (some of a very complex nature) for use in the manufacture of company products.
Qualifications
BSME or a BS degree with a concentration of coursework in industrial technology or engineering and a minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment or any combination of experience education and training which would provide the level of knowledge skill and ability required. Special consideration for individuals with a background in bearing manufacturing or precision grinding.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Mechanical principles
- Machining practices especially pertaining to precision grinding
- The properties of metals
- The application of mathematics and dimensions to production machinery and tooling.
Skills:
- Engineering and drafting skills
- Familiar with CNC machines and machine tools and has had exposure to high-volume automated production equipment.
Abilities
- Comprehend all aspects of a manufacturing equipment or tooling problems understand the interrelationships of factors affecting a given situation
- Be attentive to detail
- Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
