We are looking for seasoned reporters to deliver high-stakes enterprise journalism that connects the corridors of power on Parliament Hill with the lives of Canadians. The successful candidate should be scoop-driven and relish leading breaking news and big stories. As a federal politics reporter for the Star you will be expected to push beyond the daily news cycle to translate complex policy economic disruption and party politics into authoritative journalism that shapes the national conversation. This role isnt just about covering the Hill; its about owning the stories that affect our readers economic stability and future..
Qualifications :
- strong understanding of how the PMO PCO federal departments and national regulatory bodies work
- Excellent news judgment storytelling ability and multimedia skills. Ready to experiment with new forms of storytelling
- Detail-oriented and deadline-driven with the ability to produce succinct clear and compelling stories on deadline
- A self-starter who is flexible and works with colleagues in a bureau environment
- Able to skillfully interview people in often-demanding situations and show resourcefulness
- Excels in document-based reporting including access to information procedures the courts and mining databases
- An ability to speak French is an asset
- A drivers license is required
Salary: $61153.56 to $96697.64

This is a notice of vacancy under Article 8 of collective agreement between Toronto Star Newspapers Limited and Unifor Local 87M. The hours of work for this position will vary according to the assignment but will all conform to a standard 35-hour work week as described under the collective agreement. This position will be under the Journalist classification in the Editorial Department and located in can be later re-assigned to any newsroom department across a variety of assignments and locations.
