Position Summary:
The High School Theater Teacher & Drama Coach is responsible for providing engaging instruction in theater arts during two class periods daily while also leading and directing the schools theatrical productions including the annual musical and drama performances. This position fosters student creativity collaboration performance skills and appreciation for the performing arts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Responsibilities:
Teach two periods of theater arts classes daily (e.g. Acting Stagecraft Theater Appreciation or related courses)
Develop and implement curriculum aligned with state and district standards
Create a positive inclusive and engaging classroom environment
Assess and evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
Maintain accurate records of attendance grades and student progress
Theater Production & Coaching Responsibilities:
Serve as director for the school musical production
Serve as drama coach for additional theatrical performances (e.g. plays one-act competitions showcases)
Select appropriate scripts and productions that align with school values and student abilities
Organize and conduct auditions rehearsals and performances
Oversee all aspects of production including acting staging blocking and interpretation
Collaborate with staff and students on technical elements (set design lighting sound costumes props)
Manage production timelines budgets and resources
Supervise students during rehearsals and performances including after-school hours
Program Development & Collaboration:
Promote student participation in theater programs
Build a positive and inclusive theater culture within the school
Collaborate with other teachers administration and community members
Coordinate with administration on scheduling facilities use and event planning
Support school events and assemblies as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Theater Drama Education or related field (preferred)
Valid teaching license (preferred)
Experience in theater production and directing (school or community level)
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
