CIRCA

The Clinical Immunogenomics Research Consortium of Australasia (CIRCA) is a Garvan-based initiative that brings together clinicians and scientists from across Australia and New Zealand. CIRCA investigates patients with immune dysfunction of known and unknown cause though many are likely to have a genetic basis of disease. CIRCA aims to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients and understand the mechanisms of disease pathogenesis causing specific immune disorders. The CIRCA Project Management Team is based at Garvan and leverages Garvans IT governance legal and administrative infrastructure.

AIGA

CIRCA has formed the Australian ImmunoGenomics Alliance (AIGA) with leading Australian medical research institutions to advance shared objectives in the dynamic realm of immunogenomics and rare human immune disorders. This collaborative effort is bolstered by funding awarded by the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Genomic Health Futures Mission.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The genetic counsellor will contribute to the development and delivery of the AIGA an initiative of CIRCA. Specifically managing Program 1 which enables and oversees the recruitment of patients for AIGA and reporting participant updates back to hospital recruitment sites.

Salary: Up to $95000 (Prorated 0.6FTE: $57000) 14% super salary packaging (depending on experience)

Employment Type: 1-year fixed-term contract part-time

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct and coordinate site-specific recruitment research (retrospective) to aggregate candidate AIGA participants and relevant clinical data.

  • Support recruitment activities liaising with clinicians nurses and site PIs.

  • Maintain a database of prospective participants and liaise with key stakeholders to review participants via AIGA screening review meetings.

  • Provide genetic counselling to research participants and/or their families/guardians/next-of kin who may be informed of clinically actionable genetic information with on-referral to clinical genetic services.

  • Collect participant consent when required

  • Prepare and distribute minute reports meeting agendas and presentations CIRCA newsletter material and CIRCA project updates for the CIRCA Executive Board to communicate findings and updates to stakeholders

ABOUT YOU

The key skills and experience include:

  • Post Graduate Qualification in Genetic Counselling

  • HGSA Board eligible Associate Genetic Counsellor or HGSA certified Genetic

  • Counsellor and a current financial member of the HGSA and ASGC

  • Previous qualitative research experience

  • Experience in project management desirable in a professional clinical or research environment

  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to innovate and achieve results

  • Clear and articulate communication skills both written and verbal with an ability to work independently with multiple stakeholders

  • Advanced computer skills with fluency in a variety of Microsoft Suite and Google Ecosystem software

  • Experienced in the use of databases writing and presenting documents and reports as well as using online library searching software

  • Capacity to work with a high degree of independence

  • Persistence and tenacity

  • Be prepared to be involved/work in a very hands on manner
