In recognizing that separation can be a challenging and confusing time for children the program aims to assist children by delivering age appropriate support that helps to understand and cope with changes in family structure; develop healthy ways to express emotions; strengthen self- esteem and confidence; and maintain positive and support relationships with both parents where possible.
The role of the Counsellor is to provide high quality responsive and culturally appropriate counselling services to support children during or after parental separation.
The counsellors role is to support and enhance children and young peoples wellbeing and mental health including those experiencing family violence.
CatholicCare NT Counsellors provide a range of evidence based therapeutic interventions including family therapy individual and groups counselling support and information and referral. These interventions are primarily targeted to support critical family development and transition points including formation extension and separation.
- Relevant qualification in Counselling Psychology or Social Work (or related field) and relevant experience in a similar role
- Demonstrated experience working with children young people adults and families
- Membership (or eligibility to obtain membership) of a governing body such as PACFA AASW ACA or equivalent
- Demonstrated competence in using a broad range of evidence-based counselling and group work approaches to support client outcomes
