  • The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District announces an opening for one Itinerant-Adapted Physical Education Teacher. The Itinerant-Adapted Physical Education teacher will be under the direction of the Director of Special Education.

    DESCRIPTION
    The Itinerant Adapted Physical Education teacher is a certificated employee who is responsible for providing itinerant adapted physical education services to students who require such services.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provides adapted physical education to pupils to meet the goals and objectives as developed in each students Individualized Education Program (IEP).
    • Assists the student parents special and regular education personnel and peers in understanding the unique needs and learning characteristics of students who require adapted physical education.
    • Provides an adapted physical education assessment to determine present levels of performance and determine goals and objectives in the IEP to meet the unique physical education needs of such students.
    • Coordinates the implementation of developed goals and objectives with the IEP team to provide integrated services.
    • Provides a developmentally sequenced program of individual group and team activities.
    • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas being utilized by the adaptive physical education program to ensure the overall safety of pupils.
    • Keeps records progress reports attendance reports and other paperwork as assigned in order to monitor student progress.
    • Travels within the District between school sites and as needed within Kern County.
    • Participates in specialty training to provide current research-based supports for the students who require adapted physical education services.
    • Confers as requested with the other members of the IEP team to ensure all disciplines are aware of a students strengths and/or needs to ensure the total child is addressed.
    • Demonstrates continued professional growth through continuing education or advanced study attendance at workshops or coursework relevant to the student population to be served.
    • Performs additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Demonstrate a consistent and understanding attitude toward students.
    • Demonstrate ability to appropriately and positively manage student behaviors.
    • Ability to physically demonstrate and participate in assessment/activities with children which could include kneeling squatting climbing crawling running reaching manipulating equipment used in adapted physical education and lifting 50 lbs.
    • Must possess a private vehicle valid California Drivers license and carry current automobile insurance with at least minimum coverage for public liability and property damage.
    • Knowledge of special education laws and mandates at the federal and state levels.
    • Ability to communicate effectively via oral written or electronic means with educational staff students parents and administrators.


    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelors degree including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
    • Must hold proper Physical Education Credential with Adapted PE Authorization Certificate.
    • Successful experience in the area of physical education or special education preferred


    WORKING CONDITIONS
    Work is performed indoors and outdoors where minimal safety considerations exist.

    SALARY AND TERMS OF SERVICE
    Salary according to placement on the SPED Teacher Annual Salary Schedule with an additional $1500 stipend. Masters Degree stipend $1500 (if applicable). 184 working days per year seven (7) hours per day. Additional time/days as is necessary to perform related job duties and responsibilities. The District currently contributes $19793 per year towards hospital/medical dental and vision insurance. Prepaid life insurance plan for employee only.
