Remuneration: AUD 36063 per annum (tax-free stipend) indexed plus allowances as per RTP stipend scholarship conditions.

The Opportunity

Expressions of interest are sought from outstanding domestic and international candidates for a fully funded PhD position in Civil Engineering focused on:

• Development of ultra-low carbon concrete systems
• Integration of biochar derived from organic waste streams
• Carbon dioxide mineralisation and carbon sequestration mechanisms
• Microstructural and durability characterisation of cementitious materials
  Translation of laboratory innovation into field-scale application

The successful candidate will work within a high-performing industry-engaged research team that has delivered world-first biochar concrete field trials and internationally recognised research in sustainable construction materials. The project includes laboratory experimentation materials characterisation (e.g. mechanical durability and microstructural testing) carbon accounting and potential field validation trials.

About You

Your application will be looked upon favourably if you:

• Graduated in the top 10% of your cohort
• Graduated from a well-ranked university
• Have authored peer-reviewed research publications
• Possess excellent written and verbal English skills
• Demonstrate strong laboratory and analytical capabilities
• Have experience in concrete technology cement chemistry materials science carbon capture waste valorisation or related fields

Scholarship holders must be enrolled full-time and on campus. Applicants who already hold a PhD degree will not be considered.

Applicants must show excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to conduct self-motivated independent research within a collaborative environment.

You should have:

• A Bachelors degree with First Class Honours (H1) in Civil Engineering Materials Engineering Environmental Engineering Chemical Engineering or a closely related field; or
• A Masters degree with a substantial research component
