Your Opportunity at SECURE

The Occupational Health Advisor is responsible for the effective administration and coordination of the organizations disability management program. This role primarily manages disability and absence cases including Short-Term Disability (STD) Workers Compensation (WCB) modified duties and complex return-to-work matters ensuring consistent compliant and employee-centred processes.

The position plays a key role in supporting fitness-for-work decision making return-to-work planning accommodation coordination and stakeholder communication. The Advisor works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to balance employee well-being operational requirements legislative compliance and risk management.

This role is based out of Calgary Alberta

The Team

The team is a collaborative cross-functional group that partners closely with HR HSE leaders and external stakeholders to support employee health well-being and operational outcomes. They are highly trusted advisors who bring expertise discretion and a balanced approach to managing complex and sensitive cases.

A Day in The Life

Disability Case Management

  • Manage a portfolio of disability cases including STD LTD WCB and modified work-related files
  • Review and interpret medical documentation to support appropriate case decisions
  • Apply internal adjudication and disability management guidelines to ensure consistency and fairness
  • Monitor case progression and proactively identify barriers to recovery or return to work
  • Maintain ongoing communication with employees and leaders throughout the leave lifecycle

Return-to-Work Coordination

  • Support fitness-for-work assessments and recommendations
  • Facilitate safe and sustainable return-to-work plans
  • Coordinate modified duties and workplace accommodations as required
  • Collaborate with leaders to ensure operational feasibility of accommodations
  • Escalate complex medical legal or operational concerns appropriately

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Act as a key liaison between employees leaders Payroll Benefits HR HSE and other internal stakeholders
  • Engage with external stakeholders as required to support case management
  • Provide clear guidance to leaders on disability management processes roles and expectations
  • Communicate professionally and effectively in sensitive and complex situations

Confidentiality & Compliance

  • Maintain strict medical confidentiality in all aspects of case management
  • Ensure compliance with applicable privacy legislation employment standards human rights obligations and internal information-handling policies
  • Exercise sound professional judgment when managing sensitive medical and personal information
  • Adhere to documentation standards that protect organizational and employee privacy

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate timely and confidential case documentation
  • Ensure adherence to record-keeping standards and privacy legislation
  • Contribute to reporting requirements related to disability metrics and trends
  • Identify opportunities to improve documentation consistency and process efficiency

Program Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the ongoing refinement of disability management practices
  • Contribute to the development or revision of policies templates and process documentation
  • Participate in audits case reviews and quality assurance activities
  • Provide input into program enhancements that strengthen operational alignment and sustainability

Health & Wellness Program Support

  • Support the development coordination and implementation of employee health and wellness initiatives aligned with organizational priorities
  • Contribute to quarterly or annual wellness campaigns (e.g. mental health awareness heart health flu season etc.)
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to promote participation and engagement in wellness programming
  • Assist in the evaluation and reporting of wellness initiative outcomes
  • Identify opportunities to align wellness programming with disability prevention and early intervention strategies

Skills Experience & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Nursing Occupational Health Kinesiology Rehabilitation Disability Management or a related field is required
  • Professional certification such as Registered Nurse (RN) with Occupational Health experience Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or a related disability management designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in disability management case management or occupational health
  • Experience managing STD LTD WCB and return-to-work cases
  • Experience interpreting medical documentation and supporting fitness-for-work decisions
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of disability management principles and return-to-work best practices
  • Working knowledge of applicable employment human rights privacy and workplace legislation
  • Sound clinical or case-management judgment
  • High level of discretion and professionalism
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
