1. SUMMARY
The Office of Strategic Communications (OSC) provides communications direction and guidance to stakeholders across the NATO enterprise and coordinates strategic communications activities across all NATO civilian and military bodies. The Office carries out full-spectrum communications analysing the information environment designing and creating content managing communications technology and platforms overseeing media relations and engaging audiences through a wide range of channels.
Within the Press and Media Section the Media Monitor is responsible for tracking analysing and reporting on international media coverage relevant to NATOs mandate leadership and strategic priorities. To this end the Media Monitor supports the OSCs leadership by providing timely situational awareness monitoring guidance and regular media products. The post holder may be required to travel occasionally and will work in shifts outside normal office hours to ensure timely media monitoring.
2. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The incumbent must:
possess higher secondary education qualification with 4 years of relevant experience OR a university degree/upper vocational training in a relevant discipline with two years of relevant professional experience in international politics or communications;
demonstrate sound political judgement related to NATOs agenda and priorities;
have excellent drafting skills;
possess the following minimum levels of NATOs official languages (English/French): V (Advanced) in one; I (Beginner) in the other.
The following would be considered an advantage:
knowledge of other Allied and/or partner languages;
experience in media monitoring and/or media analysis working in a press office;
experience in media operations and/or events management.
3. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
Expertise Development. Develop/maintain solid understanding of a complex international media environment. Stay abreast of current trends and tools in media monitoring and analysis. Contribute to the evaluation of the OSCs work and the broader Information Environment Assessment.
Knowledge Management. Monitor international national and regional media and relevant social media for coverage related to NATO and its strategic priorities. Alert and keep the OSCs leadership and other stakeholders informed on developments trends and narratives with potential impact on NATOs communication posture. Provide timely and relevant media monitoring insights including to support crisis communications. Prepare and distribute regular and ad-hoc media monitoring products across the Organization.
Stakeholder Management. Build working relationships with teams across the OSC and the NATO enterprise on issues impacting media monitoring and particular continuously integrate the political guidance of OSCs leadership to ensure accurate contextual guidance and insights.
Project Management. Collaborate and coordinate work within the Media Operations and Monitoring Team to manage various work strands simultaneously. Assist with various OSC projects as required by the OSC leadership. Support the planning and implementation of media operations as required.
Perform any other related duty as assigned.

Reporting Line: The Media Monitor reports to the Head of Media Operations and Monitoring.
Interactions: The Media Monitor works as part of a small team with colleagues across the OSC and NATO enterprise.
