Title: Urban Mathematics Specialist
Supervisor: Director of SST9
Summary/Objective: Responsible for supporting an assigned Urban School District located in State Support Team Region 9 (SST9) in accordance with roles and responsibilities outlined in the grant agreement with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
Position Qualifications:
- A masters degree in mathematics mathematics education or a related field
(curriculum administrationetc.)
- Experience providing instruction in special education with a masters degree in special education/intervention specialist license
- Experience providing instruction to individuals with dyscalculia or individuals experiencing mathematics difficulties
- Experience providing and coaching for mathematics instruction
- Experience facilitating and interpreting screening measures for identifying students at risk for mathematics failure.
- Familiarity with Ohio Materials Matter and its role in supporting high-quality instructional resources.
- Strong coaching and consulting skills to support teachers in implementing the
Standards for Mathematical Practice and Effective Mathematics Teaching
Practices
- Experience working with administrators to implement systematic improvements in
mathematics education particularly for students in lower-performing student
groups
- Experience facilitating or participating in plan-do-study-act cycles (i.e. collaborative problem-solving modeletc.)
Knowledge
A thorough understanding of the following is essential:
- Mathematics acquisition assessment and instruction
- Effective strategies for mathematic instruction aligned with the research on the most effective teaching strategies
- Explicit mathematics instruction and Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices
- Ohios Learning Standards in Mathematics and familiarity with Ohios Plan for K-12 Mathematics
- Standards for Mathematical Practice and data-driven decision-making to support learners through a multi-tiered system of support
- Universal Design for Learning educational framework
Additional Requirements:
- Hold or complete a current Ohio BCI and Federal Background check free of
disqualifying infractions
- Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
- Participate (and pass where applicable) in all required training including but not
limited to: Bloodborne Pathogens Crisis Intervention Educator Ethics etc.
- Embody high ethical standards integrity and accept responsibility for decisions
and conduct

- Efficiently operate Google Applications including Gmail Drive Sheets Docs etc.
- Adhere to the Stark County Educational Service Center (SCESC) Governing
Board policies/administrative guidelines/staff handbook policies of the assigned
district/worksite and the to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for
Educators
- Promote the proper use care and security of SCESC property and report
misconduct vandalism equipment malfunctions and other concerns
- Advance the professional image of the SCESC and affiliate districts
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with coworkers and colleagues
promoting a cohesive work environment
- Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to supervisor and/or civil authorities
as required by law
- Maintain confidentiality of student related information
- Such alternatives or additions to the above as deemed appropriate by the ESC
superintendent and/or the ODEW
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate implementation of the scope of the work as outlined in the Grant
Agreement for Ohios State Support Teams with supervision of the SST9
Director
- Maintain a positive and productive relationship with regional assigned district
- Attend state regional and local meetings conferences and trainings
- Assist with the implementation of Stark County Board of Education policies and
administrative regulations; and compliance requirements of State/Federal
regulations
- Perform other specific duties as assigned.
