Position Description Summary: APT Research is hiring an Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Quality/Safety Engineer on the KSC Safety and Mission Assurance Support Services (SMASS IV) contract at the Kennedy Space Center FL. This person will provide EGS Program quality engineering assurance in the SA-F division. Responsibilities: - Performs Government Mandatory Inspection Points (GMIPs) In-Line Assessments surveillance inspections and tracks associated nonconformances. Supports GMIP Reduction efforts and continuing transition to Risk Based Quality model
- Performs assessments/audits of contractors Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure products and services are produced by design documentation and engineering requirements
- Supports development and revisions of government insight/oversight plan for individual contracts
- Identifies Government Mandatory Inspection Points and work with contractors to assure implementation and completion of GMIPs
- Works with contractor Quality counterparts engineering Subject Matter Experts and other technical disciplines to resolve technical issues address nonconformances and other quality concerns
- Manages & tracks procurement status Requests for Information nonconformances waivers elevated risks and any associated reports
- Reviews of contractor documentation for compliance to higher level Program level and contractual requirements
- Reviews government and contractor data and perform data analysis
- Identifies quality/safety issues concerns and potential risks that require mitigation
- Represents NASA Quality while interfacing with key NASA and contractor procurement stakeholders
- Performs insight/oversight of contractor operations focusing on both flight hardware and Ground Support Equipment (GSE). Will work with a variety of systems such as mechanical electrical hydraulic pneumatic and others
- Performs acceptance of GSE/hardware receiving inspections and review of Acceptance Data Packs (not including signing of DD250 documents)
- Performs inspections surveillance and requirement compliance while overseeing fabrication assembly test and checkout of GSE and aerospace flight hardware
- Able to work as Point of Contact or Focal Point and assumes responsibility for leading some assignments
Required Experience/Education: - Education: Bachelors degree
- Experience: 6 years of engineering science or technical experience (Quality Engineering experience minimum)
- Extensive experience with processing of Artemis program hardware performance of Government Mandatory Inspection Points and current Exploration Ground Systems Safety & Mission Assurance Quality model
- Strong quality background with work experience in processing flight hardware and Ground Support Equipment that may include larger flight/GSE structures system level components or smaller assemblies
- Significant floor-level experience with a variety of systems (mechanical electrical hydraulic pneumatic etc.)
- KSC flight hardware/aerospace processing experience and Procurement Quality experience highly desirable
Security Clearance Requirement: - Must be able to qualify for an unescorted badge (US Citizen required) and be able to pass a background investigation & drug test.
Preferred Experience: - Ability to review quality/engineering requirements and specifications contracts statements of work and higher-level documents and translates requirements into effective insight/oversight quality plans to assure implementation.
- QMS auditing experience.
- Experience monitoring and evaluating contractor processing activities.
- Clear accurate and concise communication and writing skills.
- Ability to clearly and concisely present plans technical issues and project status. Ability to read/interpret drawings.
- Proficiency with personal computers specifically with using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with (or ability to learn) virtual meeting products (MS Teams Zoom etc.) is highly desired.
- Demonstrates self-initiative and strong engagement with respect to issues and technical concerns impacting the organization.
Work Environment: - Office environment and operational areas - KSC Flight hardware and Ground support processing facilities.
- Requires ability to provide clear concise accurate and timely communication both verbally and written.
- Ability to interact professionally with coworkers management contractors and customers
Travel Requirements: - Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.) <10%
Physical Requirements: - Requires sitting for periods of time at a workstation/ desk and / work in operational processing areas.
