5th Grade Teacher

St. Agnes Catholic School in Vermillion South Dakota is seeking a passionate and fully certified Fifth Grade Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The ideal candidate will guide students in academic growth while cultivating their faith and moral development through Gospel values. They create a supportive classroom that encourages curiosity responsibility and respect while integrating Catholic teachings into daily learning. Daily responsibilities include leading prayer guiding students in the truths of the Catholic faith and modeling Gospel values through word and example. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teach reading comprehension vocabulary grammar and writing skills through a variety of literature and informational texts while developing students communication and critical thinking skills.
• Provide instruction in grade-level math concepts including fractions decimals multiplication division geometry and problem-solving strategies.
• Teach foundational concepts in life earth and physical science using hands-on and inquiry-based learning experiences.
• Instruct students in U.S. history geography civics and cultural understanding while fostering responsible citizenship.
• Teach the Catholic faith through the approved religion curriculum lead daily prayer participate in Mass and liturgical celebrations and model Gospel values in the classroom
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students including enrichment and intervention strategies
• Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress provide feedback and guide instruction
• Establish a safe structured and engaging classroom that fosters student exploration and respect
• Collaborate with colleagues support staff and families to support whole-child development
• Participate in professional learning communities and contribute to a culture of growth and innovation

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Experience with differentiated instruction to serve all students in a classroom
• Effective skills in creating positive relationships with students and their families
• Strong interpersonal collaborative and organizational skills
• Willingness and ability to act as an outstanding personal witness to the Catholic faith

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelors degree
• Valid South Dakota Teaching certificate or ability to obtain
• Relevant teacher experience and content knowledge
• Knowledge of childhood development and best practices in elementary instruction.
• Strong classroom management organizational and communication skills.
