Job Summary

The Journeyman Millwright (MRF) safety and efficiently within their scope of expertise repairs maintains installs troubleshoots and upgrades the machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and permitting requirements while achieving target KPIs for the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and as required other SUEZ Canada Waste Services contracted facilities within the City of Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC). KPIs include safety productivity and quality of work performed. The incumbent may be requested to mentor and train an assigned Apprentice(s) as well as oversee work performance of any Maintenance Technicians assisting with a work order. Incumbent is required to perform On-Call duties as scheduled and may be required to work rotating day and afternoon shifts. The Journeyman Millwright is required to perform Safety Sensitive duties and responsibilities.

This position operates within a COR certified plant environment (which is a requirement of our Contract) and is required to comply with all regulatory requirements and the Clients Environmental Management System. The facility operates up to 17 hours per day potentially 7 days per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Understands and promotes the Companys the Divisions the Plants and the Departments mission statement values and strategic goals.
  2.  Proactively promotes through example a safe work ethic attitude and workplace. Complies with all safety policies standards and procedures to achieve a safe work environment and safety for all staff and visitors as well as the Companys Clients and Regulatory Agencies safe work objectives and requirements.
  3. Proactively models and maintains effective working relationships and communications with peers management staff of other company departments and client representatives. Models effective conflict resolution skills and effectively resolves any conflicts in a timely manner to achieve positive and healthy working relationships and workplace environment.
  4. Promotes a quality first work ethic and attitude to provide a service of the highest standard achievable.
  5. Maintains confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
  6. Understands complies with and is accountable for adherence to COR quality standards in all activities.
  7. Safely operates company owned leased managed or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment. Incumbent is required to perform Safety Sensitive duties and responsibilities.
  8. Manages assigned tasks/projects within scope of responsibility so all KPIs are achieved including but not limited to safety productivity and product quality. KPIs will be measured by: Key Performance Indicators
    1. Safety:Lost Time Accidents Incidents PPE Compliance Permit Compliance
    2. Quality Control: Re-work Quality of work
    3. Work Order Hours: Estimated Time vs Actual Time
    4.  Productivity: Total Work Hours vs Actual Work Hours
  9. As assigned maintains plant machinery and equipment including conveyors and all other equipment throughout the facility.
  10. Troubleshoots mechanical problems with plant machinery and equipment and repair as necessary.
  11. As assigned carries out regular PMs on the above mentioned equipment including cleaning.
  12. Works assigned shifts and on-call duties as scheduled. May be required to work authorized overtime to maintain facility production.
  13. Supports other initiatives of the Plant to promote a healthy and positive work environment and enhance employee morale and engagement.
  14. Completes other duties as assigned.

WORK ORDERS (WO):

  1. Inputs data into MP2 to create new WOs whether mechanical or electrical.
  2. Obtains assigned WOs from Supervisor and reviews with them to ensure understanding.
  3. Interprets WO and technical manuals as required.
  4. Obtains any required permits (i.e. Safe Work Plans Lock Out Tag Out Hot Work Confined Space etc).
  5. Immediately sources all materials and equipment required to complete WO.
  6. Diagnoses the source of any faults and malfunctions.
  7. Immediately informs Supervisor of any immediate and potential problems or anything out of the norm whether electrical mechanical production or equipment damage and especially when relating to possible production down time.
  8. Performs work within their area of expertise as noted on WO in a safe and efficient manner to achieve KPIs. Repairs or replaces defective parts components or systems with accuracy and efficiency in accordance with SOP and manufacturers specifications. Completes WO including drawings. Examines equipment to determine if additional safety or repair work is needed.
  9. Tests repaired equipment for proper performance to assess that completed work meets requirements and specifications. Cleans up work area. Advises Supervisor immediately upon job completion.
  10. Documents completed WO data by using MP2 WO comments to explain what work was done the time taken and any parts used. Also records any production down time.

LEADERSHIP:

  1. While being a positive role-model provides hands-on training mentoring and guidance to assigned Apprentice(s).
  2. Provides effective and timely guidance and direction to assigned Maintenance Technicians assisting with a WO.

Qualifications :

 

  •  An inter-provincial Red Seal Millwright Trade Certificate.
  •  Minimum of four (4) years related-industry experience and completion of certification.
  • Experience with MP2 or a similar computerized maintenance management system will be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in an industrial process plant environment is a definite asset.
  • In-house training on the quality systems quality regulations and safe work practices (including WHMIS). 
  • In-house training on Corporate policies.
  • Respectful Workplace Training.
  • Demonstrated hand-on leadership skills.
  •  Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.
  • Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within a fast-paced environment with changing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proven organizational and creative-problem solving skills.
  • Working-level computer skills to operate MS Office Suite (especially Outlook Excel and Word) and programspecific software.
  • Ability and willingness to work assigned shifts and pre-authorized overtime and perform On-Call duties as scheduled.
  • Ability to wear respirator when required to meet safety guidelines due to dusty environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Ability to complete all conditions of employment including negative alcohol and drug test current and clean Class 5 drivers license pre-employment medical immunizations and background check.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 Equipment and Tools Used:

  • Powered hand tools.
  • Standard and specialized shop equipment and tools.
  • Mobile equipment includes trucks loaders skid steers and man lifts.
  • Regularly operates company owned leased managed or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment.
  • Regularly works on Plant equipment including pumps conveyors and hydraulic equipment.

  • Continually managing priorities to meet operational objectives
  • Achieving expected performance standards while maintaining an efficient and safe working environment.
  • High volume workload requiring both sound technical knowledge and ability to provide exceptional customer service.

 Challenging conditions normally associated with job:

It is assumed that all reasonable and legal Occupational Health & Safety practices are in place and are adhered addition PPE is to be worn as per company standards and procedures. Refer to the safety section and safe work plan sections of procedures for specific information. Refer to the positions Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for the correlation or activity risk and controls. 

  • Works directly in Plant; required to climb ladders work at heights or in confined spaces and be exposed to various industrial hazards such as but not limited to noise fumes chemicals process gases bloodborne and other pathogens.
  • Works in dusty environment and wears respirator while in the Plant when required to meet safety guidelines.
  • Exposed to compressed/flammable gas mobile equipment moving equipment rotating equipment and electrical hazards.
  • Exposed to hot and cold working environments.
  • Required to do heavy lifting and carrying. Required to perform On-Call duties as scheduled

HOURS OF WORK

Regular hours of work for the Journeyman Millwright (MRF) is based on a 40 hour work week. These hours may include evenings nights and weekends. A 30-minute unpaid lunch break and two 15-minute paid rest breaks are provided for each shift. Hours of work reflect operational and business needs and will be provided with a notice of work times in accordance with the Alberta Employment Standards code. Incumbent is required to perform On-Call Duties as scheduled and may be required to work pre-authorized overtime
