Summary
The Research Assistant assists Principal Investigators in both the Master of Public (M.P.H) Program and Pharmacology Department with their research and experiments. Work is performed under direct supervision of the PI or senior member of the lab. The position takes direction from both the M.P.H. Program Director and the Chair of Pharmacology Department. This individual will report to the Chair of Pharmacology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Enters data and reviews for accuracy
- Maintains an accurate laboratory notebook
- Adheres to laboratory safety procedures
- Assists in standard maintenance of the laboratory
- Obtains quotes and performs ordering and receiving duties for lab supplies
- Prepares and executes experiments including but not limited to molecular experiments (e.g. PCR) dissections cell culture and microbial DNA extraction and sequencing
- Assists with breeding and dissection of mice; handles and potentially injects mice.
- Uses basic microbiology and laboratory techniques
- Performs data collection and entry
- Graphs and analyzes data with supervision
- Interacts with Institutional Review Boards and human subjects
- Trains students
- Contributes to abstract submissions poster preparation and/or manuscript publications
- Performs other duties as assigned
This position will also work collaboratively with other members of the research team and project partners to address existing project requirements including participating in staff meetings team trainings and other duties related to general conduct of the study.

Bachelors degree from four-year College or university in a biological or other related science. 0-2 years of research experience required. Must be willing to work with animals.
Computer Skills
Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel Outlook). Ability to learn data management systems (REDCap) statistical software packages (SPSS SAS etc.) graphical and statistical programs (GraphPAD PRISM) and operate laboratory instruments.
