Amazon Web Services is hiring a Product Design Mechanical Engineer for our Electrical Products and Services Engineering team. The product engineering team is a part of a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation for products used within our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
The Product engineering team at Amazon works to design and develop resilient cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems. As an engineer at Amazon we are responsible for achieving world class uptime for our customers. We drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs and communicate technical direction to Senior Management. We are seeking a Design Engineer with a Mechanical Engineering background with hands experience in new product design and development of electrical power distribution equipment such as Low Voltage Switchgear Power Distribution Cabinets or LV panel boards. If you can design electrical power distribution products and equipment and test the products per latest codes and standards using third party test laboratories then you will be a good fit. You will directly lead product design and development and be a part of the process from concept to implementation. You must be capable of defining equipment specifications and evaluating the merit of design changes. You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in the product design field.
At Amazon team work is absolutely necessary for us to accomplish our goals. You must be able to work within a team and depend on others to accomplish the required work. As a product engineer at Amazon you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including engineering service providers manufacturers vendors inspectors third party testing labs and contractors.
Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary but shouldnt be more than 30%. International support will be part of the job and some international travel may be necessary. Your contribution could consist of leading international projects and could require developing engineering information packages. An understanding of international electrical product design requirements is helpful but not necessary.
Key job responsibilities
Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
Lead new product design development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers including LV and MV switchgear power distribution cabinets and panels.
Ensure compliance with UL CSA IEC and federal state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
Validate design through prototype pre-production and first-of-kind builds conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation operation and performance of electrical products.
Ability to provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.

- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration development and into deployment or mass production
- 5 years leading new product design development testing and manufacturing support of electronic components.
- Bachelors degree or higher in engineering.
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
