What we are looking for

Senior management experience at Country Director or similar level within the humanitarian/recovery context with knowledge of Jordan and the wider Middle East context.

Strong representation skills with the ability to engage and represent NRC at a strategic level coupled with experience in advocacy work.

People management skills with experience leading diverse teams.

What you will do

The Country Director has overall responsibility for country operations providing both strategic direction and operational leadership. S/He leads the Country Management Group (CMG) and is a member of the Regional Management Team under the leadership of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Director.

The Country Director provides vision promotes ideas gains agreement and acts as a role model. S/he ensures NRCs continued relevance and position as a principled humanitarian actor in Jordan.

Key responsibilities:

  • Development and execution of the country close collaboration with both the Regional Team and NRC CDs from neighbouring countries jointly set the strategic direction of the regional displacement crisis and ensure close cooperation on developing response modalities.

  • Resource allocation mobilisation and control leadership on fundraising donor compliance and donor engagement.

  • Advocacy - drive forward the position and advocacy voice of NRC Jordan within the changing humanitarian context.

  • National representation external engagement and coordination.

  • Cost efficiency and quality including implementation of control mechanisms and ensuring adequate structures and systems are in place.

  • Continuously promote a positive and collaborative working environment characterised by high levels of trust and respect with due consideration for staff and consultant care and wellbeing.

  • Line management responsibilities for directly reporting staff. This includes performance management of staff as well as workforce planning recruitment staff induction and development of staff as well as ensuring Duty of Care for own staff.

  • Responsible for all in-country activities personnel consultants and safety and security of all staff.

  • Compliance and adherence to NRCs policies guidance and procedures.

  • Promoting accountability the highest standard of ethics including safeguarding and adherence to the Humanitarian Principles.

What you will bring

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field of study.

  • Minimum seven years of relevant managerial experience including five years asa Senior Manager/Country Director in humanitarian/recovery context.

  • Experience working in complex or volatile contexts and experience in protracted displacement settings.

  • Knowledge of the context of the MENA region particularly Jordan.

  • Strong representation skills with the ability to engage and represent NRC at a strategic level

  • Experienced in advocacy work.

  • Experience leading diverse teams.

  • Fluency in English both written and of Arabic is a plus.

  • Duty station: Amman Jordan.
  • Fixed term contract: 24 months.
  • Travel: Up to 15% in country.
  • Salary/benefits: Grade 12 on NRCs grading structure.
