Position Overview
The HVAC Service Engineer (Chillers Specialist) is responsible for the installation commissioning maintenance and troubleshooting of HVAC systems with a primary focus on industrial and commercial chillers. This role ensures high system uptime operational efficiency and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Chiller Installation & Commissioning
- Install test and commission watercooled and aircooled chillers including screw scroll and centrifugal models.
- Configure and calibrate control panels sensors and safety devices.
- Conduct system performance checks including deltaT measurement flow rate verification and pressure testing.
2. Chiller Maintenance & Repair
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on chiller plant components such as:
- Compressors
- Heat exchangers (evaporator & condenser)
- Cooling towers
- Pumps motors & VFDs
- Expansion valves & refrigerant circuits
- Handle refrigerant charging leak detection and recovery per EPA/ASHRAE standards.
- Conduct chemical cleaning descaling and tube brushing of condenser & evaporator tubes.
3. Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose faults using advanced tools like:
- Manifold gauges
- Vibration analyzers
- IR thermography
- BMS/PLC control systems
- Resolve major issues such as chiller trips high/low-pressure faults oil circuit problems and refrigerant imbalance.
- Interpret wiring diagrams control schematics and OEM manuals.
4. Chiller Plant Operations
- Monitor and optimize chiller plant parameters:
- COP / kWTR
- Water flow balance
- Chilled water and condenser water temperatures
- Energy efficiency
- Ensure integrated operation with AHUs FCUs and ventilation systems.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed service reports maintenance logs and breakdown analysis.
- Maintain records of refrigerant usage spares and critical consumables.
- Provide recommendations for system upgrades and energy efficiency improvements.
6. Client Interaction
- Explain technical findings to clients and provide preventive maintenance guidance.
- Ensure professional behavior and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Train client teams on basic chiller system care and safe operation.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in Chiller systems (aircooled watercooled centrifugal screw scroll).
- Knowledge of refrigeration cycle psychrometrics and HVAC electrical circuits.
- Experience with BMS/PLC-based chiller plant controls.
- Hands-on skills with pumps valves cooling towers heat exchangers and hydronic balancing.
- Troubleshooting capabilities for VFDs control panels and automation systems.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Customer service orientation.
- Good communication and teamwork.
- Ability to work in high-pressure onsite environments.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Electrical HVAC or Refrigeration.
- 37 years of experience specifically with Chiller servicing (depending on role level).
- Certification in HVAC/R chiller servicing or related specialization (preferred).
- Knowledge of safety protocols pressure vessel standards and refrigerant regulations.
Work Conditions
- On-site field role (commercial buildings manufacturing units data centers hospitals malls etc.).
- Requires physical mobility lifting confined space access and working at heights.
- May involve rotational shifts or emergency service calls.
