Associate Attorney

About the Role:

A leading national law firm is seeking a talented Associate Attorney to join its growing Employment Labor & Workforce Management (ELWM) practice in the Portland office. This opportunity is ideal for a litigation-focused attorney who is interested in handling complex employment matters while working with a collaborative team of experienced practitioners.

In this role you will work on a wide range of employment and labor matters for organizations ranging from emerging companies to large enterprises. You will contribute to strategic litigation provide guidance on workplace law issues and support clients in navigating complex regulatory and employment challenges.

From your first day you will have the opportunity to participate in meaningful client work collaborate with experienced attorneys and build expertise in employment litigation and workplace advisory matters.

Key Responsibilities:

The Associate Attorney will support litigation and advisory matters within the Employment Labor & Workforce Management practice.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the development of litigation strategies in employment and labor matters.
  • Interviewing witnesses and gathering factual information related to cases.
  • Reviewing and analyzing electronically stored information and documents.
  • Drafting pleadings motions briefs and other legal documents.
  • Conducting and defending depositions.
  • Interacting with clients opposing counsel and internal legal teams.
  • Appearing in court and supporting case management activities.
  • Providing legal advice and counsel on workplace law matters.
  • Supporting clients on issues related to wage and hour compliance employee relations and risk mitigation.
  • Advising on workplace accommodation matters under the ADA and related laws.
  • Assisting with employment agreements workforce restructuring and reductions in force.
  • Contributing to the development and review of employment-related policies and procedures.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Relevant employment litigation experience.
  • Knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws including:
    • Wage and hour laws
    • Trade secret law
    • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
    • Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)
    • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
    • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
    • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
    • Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) and similar state laws.
  • Experience participating in various stages of litigation including strategy development discovery depositions motion practice and court appearances.
  • Experience advising employers on workplace law matters is beneficial.
  • Strong academic credentials.
