What Youll Do
The Welding Engineer will be responsible for providing support to the Projects Engineering group existing facilities operations construction and maintenance activities. Project support includes participation in designs ranging from scope definition feasibility and conceptual studies and preliminary/detailed designs. The Welding Engineer writes welding requirements for procurement documents welding brazing and bonding procedures in compliance with applicable code requirements. The candidate also solves problems in designing and maintaining plant facilities and processes. The candidate will be responsible for training site personnel from engineering maintenance and construction on the welding requirements criteria and compliance documents applicable for performing work activities.
The Welding Engineer reviews design output documents for welding technical data for compliance with national codes and standards and company approved procedures and policies. The Welding Engineer evaluates bid proposals for technical compliance of welding submittals reviews vendor submittals and conducts vendor surveillances to ensure compliance to contractually specified welding requirements.
The Welding Engineer may be assigned field activities supporting on-site organizations including on-site subcontractors performing welding brazing bonding activities or non-destructive examination activities associated with welding brazing or bonding that falls within the scope of the Welding Program Manual. This includes review of on-site work packages involving welding to ensure that design output is complete and correct and has appropriate hold points.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree in engineering/science discipline
- OR a Masters degree in engineering/science discipline
- OR a PhD in engineering/science discipline
Department of Energy (DOE) Order 426.2A Requirements
- In addition to the above requirements the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. Baccalaureate in engineering or related science 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)
Preferred Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree in engineering or a related field from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents thru ABET Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA)
- A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) is preferred for up to four years post-graduation confirmed by transcript at the time of offer. Beyond four years from graduation relevant experience will supersede GPA in hiring considerations.
- Bachelors degree with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA
- Masters degree with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA
- PhD with a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative GPA
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a welding engineer in a fabrication manufacturing or operating environment
- Experience working as a welding engineer under a NQA-1 quality system
- American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector Certification
- Ability to work in a project team environment
- Ability to follow procedures and work within a rigorous work process
- Ability to estimate plan and track progress for preparation of discipline deliverables
- Good written and oral communications skills
