Job Goal(s):
The primary job goal of the Behavior Intervention Specialist is to provide a supported opportunity for students to apply and generalize the appropriate learner behaviors and social-emotional skills in a less restrictive educational environment as students transition from a center-based self-contained program to the general education setting. Additionally the Behavior Intervention Specialist will assist with implementation fidelity measurements within Maple Creek deliver targeted intervention overseen by the teacher consultant or caseload manager and assist throughout the building.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma required
Associates Degree preferred
Bachelors degree in education or psychology preferred
Work Experience:
Previous experience working with students particularly those with complexneedsis preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
Establish positive working relationships with students and staff
- Provide direct student support under the guidance of the teacher consultant
- Collaborate with Local Education Agencies (LEA)
- Assist in the planning and preparation for student transitions from a center-based self-contained program to the general education setting
- Assist LEA teams with implementation of appropriate programming supplemental aids and positive behavior supports for individual student needs
- Provide support to schools classrooms and individual students to increase independence positive behavior and academic skills (LEAs and Program)
- Support the development of behavior plans model implementation and assist with monitoring the fidelity within the LEA and Program
- Implement appropriate data tracking tools and gradually fade the documentation of performance to locals
- Model effective instructional practices behavior management and crisis prevention/intervention
- Maintain an understanding of the program behavior management procedures and be supportive of the program mission and philosophy
- Work as a member of a team designed to review and evaluate student programming
- Collect data to measure progress and intervention effectiveness
- Maintain effective ongoing communication with others and participate in planning meetings
- Keep others informed of location at all times
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school information
- Maintain service log
- Follow through on assigned responsibilities within agreed upon time lines
- Follow Van Buren ISD school policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
- Regular and reliable in person attendance
- Valid drivers license required.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
