STUDENT ASSISTANT FOR A PROJECT ON ENVIRONMENTAL CRIME

Under the Starter Grant program of the Dutch government Dr. Thomas Joyce has been awarded funding to conduct a project on environmental crime in Europe. The project will focus on personal small-scale environmental crimes (such as littering) and the impact the totality of these crimes has on our world. Taking a broader approach than previous research on environmental crime these small-scale crimes also include offences that create an unpleasant emotional environment (such as street harassment) as such crimes can also seriously impact the way people interact with and react to their environment. Dr. Joyce is looking for a capable and enthusiastic student to assist him in his research; students with an interest in the protection of the environment and the prevention of harassment are welcome to apply.

Job Description
Tilburg Law School is seeking an enthusiastic colleague for the position Student Assistant in the Department of Criminal Law.

The work primarily involves supporting Departmental staff in the research they conduct.

Your profile

  • You are in the Bachelors or Masters phase of one of the Law programs within Tilburg Law School and have an interest in the fields of Criminology Criminal Justice or Criminal Law; in addition you have successfully completed at least the first year of your Bachelors program (at least 60 ECTS credits).
  • You have good communication and social skills.
  • You work accurately and in a structured manner.
  • You work independently and are also good at judging when consultation and/or coordination is necessary.
  • You handle privacy-sensitive information with integrity responsibility and a critical attitude.
  • You are a talented organizer with good study results.
  • You can express yourself well orally and in writing in English;
  • You have good digital skills (Word Excel Canvas Teams Zoom etc.);
  • You are available for 8 hours one day a week (day decided in collaboration with the successful candidate upon commencement of employment subject to flexibility).

  • Salary between 3.084 - and 3.141- gross per month for full-time employment (UFO profile Student Assistant salary scale SA). Salary depending on the course year you are in.
  • This is a vacancy for a Student Assistant who contributes to scientific education or research in accordance with Article 10.1 paragraph 2 CLA Dutch Universities. You will receive a temporary contract for the duration of 12 months.
  • Vacation pay of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
  • More than 8 weeks of vacation leave.
