    Summary Statement

    The incumbent provides coverage when a teacher is absent. The location may be at any of the secure facilities on the main campus including Ferris School New Castle County Detention Center or the Cleveland White School located in the Multipurpose Building. This is a secure environment within the department. The incumbent must be able to work as part of a team and deliver instruction that meets the needs of a diverse population. Responsibilities include behavior management as well as interacting with families and the public. This is a 12-month position.

    Essential Functions

    To perform this job successfully the incumbent must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in a satisfactory manner. Essential functions are fundamental core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position.

    • Administer assessments.
    • Understand Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
    • Understand and follow lesson plans.
    • Cover classes when teachers are absent.
    • Collaborate effectively with staff during instructional time.


    Job Requirements for a Teacher

Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

    1. Must have at least 60 college credits or an Associate Degree as required by No Child Left Behind (NCLB).
    2. Must be at least 21 years of age.
    3. Knowledge of working with at-risk children or youth.
