Reporting to the CFO the Director Tax will lead the global tax function across the Northland group of companies recommending and executing compliance practices and tax planning strategies for all tax matters. The Director Tax will oversee the preparation of the Canadian tax returns at provincial and federal levels work with eternal service providers to ensure continued compliance in all foreign jurisdictions and will support the broader finance team with all tax queries audits tax accounting and elements of international ideal candidate must have a collaborative professional and service-oriented approach when interacting with business partners utilizing strong communication skills and interpersonal skills and excel at leading Compliance & Reporting:Manage all Northland Groups tax compliance activities to ensure all necessary tax returns are prepared and filed accurately completely and in a timely and supervise the preparation of appropriate information returns and all direct and indirect tax returns in accordance with applicable legislative requirementsEnsuring timely tax filings in all global jurisdictions. Reviews all tax returns and ensure the availability of supporting reconciliations with accounting compliance and prompt payment of all required corporate tax and assist in all tax authority relations including remittances assessments reassessments and the application and compliance for issues related to indirect and/or review tax provisions for audited and reviewed financial and/or review taxable income forecasts tax notes and required optimize and ensure proper execution of cross-border transfer pricing structures and positions including compilation and maintenance of all relevant contemporaneous compliance with internal control policies on tax-related and assessment of key tax risks and exposures and outstanding issues/items and prioritization of with the rest of the Finance team external tax consultants and tax lawyers to ensure tax positions are appropriate and optimizedLiaise with external auditors during annual audits/reviews of regulatory financial with various tax authoritiesFamiliarize self with and maintain proficiency with all accounting and tax software and programs used by the Northland with tax due diligence for new contracts new business ventures or selective potential M&A current on tax law and tax code updates as reasonably various ad hoc or planning projects as responsibilities include:Responsible for the successful collaboration with inter-department stakeholders (Accounting Legal Treasury Data & Analytics AP and Payroll).Coaching and mentoring of junior staff is a thorough understanding around stakeholder expectations and leverage accounting resources and knowledge to meet those a continuous improvement and customer-service mindset looking for opportunities to drive improved levels of service speed automation and reduce duplication to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of all finance functions in support of Northlands overall business successRequirementsBachelors degree in Finance/Accounting or Business Administration CPA Designation preferred.8-10 years progressive related experience In-Depth Tax Certification (recommended)Large multi-national corporation experience (required)Strong Canadian tax and accounting experience preferably with private Canadian companies applying ASPE accounting standardsCross-border tax experienceStrong financial analytical research and documentation organization and time management in Microsoft Office particularly ExcelWillingness to about process improvementsExcellent communicator self-motivated and driven team player with the ability to build relationships and community with coworkers and cross-functional to train and manage of resume does not guarantee an interview or transfer.
