Job Summary

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides psychological services to students in the Roanoke City Public School Division and to children of residents of Roanoke City in other institutions.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

The following duties are normal for this position.   • Coordinates psychological services including the coordination of assignments of school psychologists.
  • Provides leadership to school psychologists through regular meetings.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Director and/or Associate Director of Student Services and the school psychologists.
  • Coordinates and provides psychological services to students during the summer months including Extended School Year services make-up services evaluations and participation in associated meetings (Child Study Eligibility and IEP meetings).
  • Serves as a member of the special education eligibility committees.
  • Selects and administers tests to children referred for consideration for special education services or for triennial assessment.
  • Interprets test results to parents and school division personnel.
  • Consults with school division personnel agency personnel and parents on psychological matters involving students.
  • Provides family group or individual counseling services to referred students and families.
  • Provides training and workshops to students parents school personnel and members of the community.
  • Serves on school wide committees and task forces when requested.
  • Serves as a contributing member on school-based trans-disciplinary teams when appropriate.
  • Contributes to total school and division program.
  • Engages in professional growth activities.
  • Maintains accurate complete records as required by law district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services and/or school administration.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to working effectively with children parents school division personnel and other members of the community. Ability to quickly learn and apply new technology. Demonstrates strong organizational and managerial skills. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare and disseminate written reports within required timelines. Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to an itinerant position. Possesses sufficient strength agility dexterity and mobility to carry out all performance requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Masters Degree in Psychology from an approved college and three years of experience in the field or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the acceptable knowledge skills and abilities as evidenced in the preceding performance responsibilities; Virginia teaching license with a school psychologist endorsement. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires significant sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to stand walk bend over reach overhead grasp push pull move and lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs. to waist height. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
