The Senior Manager Data Science is a transformative leader guiding Qantas in maximising the strategic value of its rich data assets. This role will help set the direction for Qantas data-driven initiatives and ensure findings translate into impactful business outcomes that enhance customer experience improve our internal efficiency and drive our competitive advantage.
Leveraging technical and data analysis skills will be critical to share knowledge and influence peers and stakeholders across all levels of the organisations. The Senior Manager Data Science will apply their deep expertise working with large complex datasets to extract insights and knowledge to solve complex problems to transform our business processes and make data-driven decisions.
Reporting directly to the Head of Data & Analytics the Senior Manager will be required to collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders in our Finance People Procurement and Legal teams to identify opportunities develop solutions improve existing business processes and influence executive leaders decision making to drive commercially beneficial outcomes.
Responsibilities include:
- Becoming an expert in the disparate data that drives our business
- Using the knowledge you develop in our data to lead complex and strategically critical data and analytics projects in our finance team transformation
- Supporting our procurement teams in the deployment of AI systems that realise measurable savings from our existing supplier contracts and reimagine the way we think about procurement across the group
- Helping our people team develop reporting and insights on our staff
- Lead a high performing team to drive a data driven culture and foster a collaborative environment within the team.
- Champion the role and the value of Data Analytics & AI as a critical contributor to commercial outcomes.
Youll have:
- At least 5-10 years experience as a leader in Data Science and/or Data Engineering roles
- Bachelors degree in applied Statistics Maths Physics Computer Science or a related analytical field
- Demonstrated technical experience working with large complex and diverse datasets
- Strong self-motivation proactive approach and ability to work autonomously
- Extensive experience utilising one or more relevant programming languages e.g. python R
- Experience working in large and complex environments
- Strong Teradata experience preferred
- Machine learning / AI experience would be advantageous
- Project management skills with the ability to lead complex data projects from start to finish
- Experience leading or supporting the implementation of data governance frameworks would be beneficial
- Financial Data systems (ERP EPM FP&A systems) experience would be advantageous
- Excellent communication and ability to work cross functionally
- Strategic thinking and planning skills
- Strong attention to detail
