Sunnybrook Research Institute is the research enterprise of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Research spans three Toronto-based campuses eight programs and three scientific platforms. Our main aims are to understand and prevent disease and to develop treatments that enhance and extend life. The Physical Sciences Platform is seeking an experienced machinist to manage the Advanced Machine Shop at Sunnybrook Research Institute. The Advanced Machine Shop is a state-of-the-art facility equipped for design fabrication and testing of medical devices. It specializes in the manufacture of magnetic resonance imaging-compatible devices prototypes custom-made parts and catheter-based devices 3-D printing and in 3-D computer-assisted design.
The shop technologist provides mechanical expertise and support to the leading-edge medical research. Responsibilities include design and construction of complex mechanical structures and instruments from a broad range of materials. Must work independently from sketches or working drawings use CAD and CAM programs CNC waterjet and manual machinery and equipment. Training on CNC equipment will be provided. Provides guidance and basic machine shop training for Research students and staff who utilize the manual machine shop tools and equipment. Must also maintain a supply of material fasteners and tooling as required. Must provide cost estimates for and maintain records of time and material costs for individual projects for recovery from appropriate grant accounts.
