Preble Streets Food Services Programs help meet the nutritional needs of our community members through our Food Security Hub Mobile Food Services Food Pantry and shelter-based meal service sites. Preble Street has adapted how it provides food services to effectively meet the food needs of people experiencing homelessness and food insecurityand our team of food services professionals work together in our innovative Food Programs toward achieving our goals to address and end hunger in our communities.
Preble Streets Food Programs has a full-time Dishwasher/Prep Cook position available to work as part of the collaborative team at the Food Security Hub. This position supports the Chefs and Sous Chefs in delivering high-quality food services consistent with the agencys mission. Responsibilities include food preparation and packaging dishwashing maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment and opening or closing the kitchen as needed. The Food Programs Dishwasher/Prep Cook also trains and guides volunteers working in the kitchen.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) first-shift position. Candidates may choose from one of the following schedules:
Tuesday Saturday: 8:00 AM 4:00 PMor Sunday Thursday: 8:00 AM 4:00 PM
Dishwasher/Prep Cook qualifications include alignment with Preble Streets mission and understanding of social economic and food justice. Preferred qualifications include 1-3 years experience in commercial or institutional foodservice or other relevant culinary experience.
Skills needed for Dishwasher/ Prep Cook include the ability to guide the work of volunteers communicate effectively respectfully and professionally ability to work flexible hours including weekends understanding of and positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or living in poverty strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work in a team setting with a diverse population; and ability to perform work according to safety rules and practices.
Consistent reliable attendance at work as scheduled is required.
