BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The United Nations World Food Programme is the worlds largest humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict disasters and the impact of climate change.
WFPs Chief Financial Officer Division drives effective planning allocation and utilization of resources and oversees the corporate financial cycle from performance and financial planning through budgeting recording of accounting transactions and payments to financial and performance reporting.
As part of the CFO Division the CFOMD team analyze and transform complex financial and performance data to derive strategic insights drive financial risk management and strengthen high-level decision-making. Leveraging advanced digital tools and innovative methodologies the team aim to support strategic business outcomes and to enhance financial stewardship.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The consultant under the supervision of the Chief CFOMD is responsible for leading and coordinating the continuous evolution of key digital products (e.g. Management Console Global HQ Head of Department Snapshot) to contribute to designing and implementing new products that support decision making by leveraging the corporate data ontology ensuring they align with CFO mandate vision and strategy.
Main responsibilities include:
Coordinate with data and information focal points to produce advanced analytics digital products.
Collate and connect data sources to enrich the corporate ontology.
Define and test analytical methodologies verify coherence of data to produce and interpret effective data visualizations.
Deliver insightful analyses addressing strategic effectiveness and efficiency questions to enhance planning budgeting and performance management digital products (e.g. Management Console Global HQ Resources to Results analytics Head of Department snapshot).
Contribute to planning budgeting and performance analysis to support corporate resource allocation decision-making and oversight.
Recommend analysis methodology enhancements and options to support interpretation of trends or patterns in complex data sets.
Participate in the creation adjustment and maintenance of analytical digital products.
Improve accountability and transparency across the performance cycle by leveraging data for cross- functional analytics and visualization tools via corporate dashboards and scorecards.
Interpret data and prepare data sets for visualization and generate visualization for analysis in accordance with product requirements as defined by the supervisor
Generate data visualizations and statistical tables for analysis
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
Delivered digital products (Upgraded Management Console Global HQ Trust Fund Monitor) and relevant datasets are consistent and coherent.
Diverse visualizations are available as part of well-defined digital products in support of decision-making.
Various in-depth data analyses prepared and shared.
Corporate ontology is enriched through continuous improvement of existing datasets and inclusion of new data points.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Degree in Computer Science Engineering Information Technology or other relevant field or degree with additional years of related work experience or trainings/courses. Certifications from top tech companies or universities is a plus.
Experience:
Three years or more of relevant progressive work experience in data management data architecture data engineering and/or data analysis. Proven experience working in a busy analytical environment and handling complex analysis.
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong data analysis skills with the ability to collect organize analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. Experience with data model design and data mining; Experience in data visualization and using data visualization tools. Demonstrated expertise in data and digital products design particularly in the UN context. Experience working with teams and team processes. High degree of adaptability to learn new technologies.
Languages:
Fluency (level C) in English language is essential.
Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language is preferred: Arabic Chinese French Russian Spanish and/or WFPs working language.
