The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking compassionate and committed individuals to join our team as a Food Service Manager at the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Omaha. These professionals provide essential oversight and support for male youth. This vital role directly supports our mission of Helping People Live Better Lives.


About the Role

This position will lead the food service operation and supervise the food service team at YRTC Omaha.

Key Responsibilities

The Food Service Manager will:

  • Supervise food preparation in the kitchen and serving procedures in the dining room; responsible for sanitation and safety conditions of work areas.
  • Order food and other supplies through the central warehouse or supply area; supervise the storage of foods.
  • Estimate for needs; keep food purchase and consumption records; supervise periodic inventories.
  • Plan menus and standardize recipes for a large number of meals; may plan for special occasion or special diet menus; make sure menus are being followed and may give suggestions to workers to help improve and expedite work.
  • Hire and train new employees; maintain personnel records; make progress and performance reports on subordinate employees.

Work Schedule

The training schedule is generally Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The work schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Wage

Starting pay rate $23.146/hour increase to $24.304/hour after successful completion of original probation. Additional $3/hour facility differential pay when working.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited University with emphasis in Foods and Nutrition Institutional Management or a related area. Experience can substitute education on a year for year basis.

Work Environment & Expectations

The Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Omaha will be opening in mid-late 2026. This program was established to provide services to male youth and offers evidence-based cognitive behavioral skill-building and substance abuse programming including:

  • Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)
  • Aggression Replacement Training (ART)
  • Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA)
  • Lion Hearts Power Source Program
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Additional groups include youth feedback and team building.
  • Individual therapy is also offered to youth with behavioral mental health and substance abuse needs. Therapists use an integrated care model to address co-occurring issues.
  • Youth who have the need will receive management for psychotropic medications through a contracted Adolescent Psychiatrist or a Psychiatric APRN.
  • Case Managers and therapists work together to develop case plans with outcomes determined by each youths risks and needs. Other assessments are used to determine treatment needs.
  • Youth can earn incentives and privileges based on positive behavior. Incentives can include group outings special treats or other fun on-campus or off-campus activities.
  • Youth may also participate in community service projects based on positive behaviors and earned privileges.
