Job Summary:The Director of Health Informatics provides enterprise-level leadership technical direction and operational oversight of the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) platform and related technologies serving all University HIPAA-covered entities and clinics. Serves as designated EMR service owner ensuring system integrity availability security enforcement interoperability and lifecycle management in coordination with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) UAB Health System and external partners. Manages and leads one or more teams of IT professionals responsible for the planning implementation optimization and long-term management of the EMR and other key systems. Collaborates with University leadership to develop and execute strategic plans to optimize the use of IT in support of health care and business objectives. Works in conjunction with the University Chief Security Officer to ensure HIPAA security oversight and compliance.

Additional Department Summary:There will be close collaboration with the central Office of Information Technology during the recruitment process and after hire.

Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degree and eight (8) years of IT experience; OR masters degree and six (6) years of IT experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. drivers license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Relevant experience in healthcare technology healthcare administration clinical operations or health informatics supporting enterprise healthcare systems may be considered in lieu of traditional IT experience.

Skills and Knowledge:Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to think and plan strategically as part of a team. Superior organizational skills. Ability to self-start with little supervision. Strong leadership general management and financial skills. Advanced knowledge of electronic health record systems information technology project management presentation development technology training spreadsheets and advanced Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualifications:Masters degree in information technology health or nursing informatics business administration educational administration or related field. Experience leading enterprise-scale application platforms with regulatory or compliance requirements. Experience in an academic health care setting educational setting and ambulatory and inpatient technology environments.
