Job Summary

Salary/Position Classification

  • $40300 annual Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks ND campus.

Purpose of Position

The University of North Dakota Division of Academic Affairs provides leadership through comprehensive and inclusive student support services and educational opportunities designed to enhance the overall development of lifelong learners and by extending university resources to all constituents.

The position is responsible for direct communication with students families and employees regarding the student disability application and documentation process. This position is responsible for coordinating disability accommodations with 3rd parties including textbooks alternative formats of materials and assistive technologies. This position will coordinate student disability testing accommodations and requires independent decision making. This position will coordinate with faculty to ensure proper proctoring of exams and timely execution.

The position works closely with and provides support to the Senior Student Services Specialist Director and staff in working with the senior leadership team in Academic Affairs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Student Disability Resources Specialist
    • Manage the application and documentation process for students registering with Student Disability Resources.
    • Determine eligibility for registration with SDR by collecting and reviewing documentation of disability.
    • Assist in managing the department software for disability services.
    • Process departmental records including disability services application documentation and workflow to appropriate departmental staff for consultation and accommodation intake.
    • Keep departmental records current and accurate following established department guidelines.
    • Consult and collaborate with UND faculty staff and non- university entities on disability issues and services.
    • Serve as point person for accommodations utilizing technology specifically post production captioning CART E-Text accessible textbooks notes sign-language interpreting and others as necessary.
    • Manage and monitor delivery of student accommodations.
    • Maintain knowledge and database of available vendors their services and procedures for accommodations.
    • Train students and faculty/staff on accommodation resources technologies and procedures including in-person and on-line.
    • Maintain confidentiality of records in accordance with FERPA.
  • Testing Specialist
    • Administer coordinate and proctor accommodated exams for UND students who are approved for testing accommodations.
    • Coordinate testing room locations schedule and faculty communications for exams.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues with exam software.
    • Provide high level customer service to students and faculty.
    • Track accommodated testing data.
  • General Support & Response
    • Answer department phones relay information take messages and transfer calls appropriately.
    • Provide front-line support for scheduling appointments and maintaining good customer service and workflow.
    • Greet visitors confirming appointments answering questions and/or referring as appropriate.
    • Purge files according to records management and retention schedule for department.
    • Provide direct administrative support to the department.
    • Complete required human resources paperwork in the hiring and termination processes for student employees.
    • Process invoices bills and other financial items.
    • Assist the Director/Asst. Director with verifying accommodation services were provided for payment.
    • Purchase office supplies as necessary maintain adequate supplies and publication inventory
    • Responsible for records retention of general office records.

Required Competencies

  • Must be able to handle confidential information
  • Requires use of standard office equipment such as fax machines copiers phone systems and computers
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Word Excel and Outlook; must know or learn PeopleSoft and Perceptive Content
  • Must work in accordance with university policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements

  • Associates degree
  • Two years office experience.
  • Previous experience managing or assisting in the management of projects.
  • One year experience working with software solutions dedicated to use within higher education.
  • Two year experience of problem solving with students and/or customers.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • Experience with private and/or sensitive information.
  • One year experience working with disability accommodations.
  • Two years experience with ADA/504 FERPA.
