Cincinnati Public Schools is seeking a creative visionary instructional leader to serve as the Principal of the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA). As one of the oldest comprehensive public arts schools in the country SCPA serves over 1000 culturally and economically diverse students in grades K-12.
The ideal candidate is an inspirational leader who will reach for the highest standards in both academic excellence and artistic preparation ensuring students are ready for university enrollment apprenticeships or professional careers.
Key Responsibilities
Academic & Artistic Leadership
- Instructional Excellence: Provide instructional leadership for teachers guiding academic curriculum and inspiring high achievement in standardized testing.
- Visionary Culture: Set the academic and artistic tone fostering an environment conducive to creativity craftsmanship and high standards.
- Curriculum Design: Guide artistic and academic curriculum based on best practices and knowledge of curriculum design.
- Data & Intervention: Champion a data-driven MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) framework that integrates core instruction with targeted interventions.
- Student Support: Implement restorative practices and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) in a K-12 setting with demonstrated results.
Administrative & Operational Oversight
- Daily Operations: Serve as a steady visible force in day-to-day school operations and facility maintenance.
- Safety: Oversee all school safety programs and issues.
- Compliance: Maintain knowledge of Career Tech policy and guidelines.
- Governance: Coordinate the Local School Decision-Making Committee (LSDMC) and attend key committee meetings.
Budget Human Resources & Development
- Financial Management: Responsible for budget development implementation and control including collaborating across cross-disciplinary budgets.
- Staff Management: Recruit hire and manage all teaching administrative and support staff.
- Fundraising: Experience with 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and projects designed to supplement school operating funds.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certification: Valid State of Ohio K-12 Principal license required
- Education: Masters Degree or beyond with a concentration in educational administration.
- Experience:
- Required teaching and/or administrative experience in elementary middle and high school settings.
- Required experience working within Title 1 schools.
- Demonstrated success in instructional leadership and arts education.
- Arts administration experience and artistic life experiences strongly preferred.
- Preferred familiarity with a district of similar size to Cincinnati Public Schools.
Skills & Attributes
- Artistic Connection: Preferred connections to nationally recognized artistic organizations and networks and a history of working with local organizations in their area.
- Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to advocate for SCPA within the community and the district.

Principals will be placed in the level equal to their years of leadership as principal and other salary differentials if applicable.
